I'm not very confident with Anthony and Abdullah back there. The better keep Grace at least...
Its funny how the CFL and NFL work. One day you're honey, the next day your horsesh*t.

Calf can probalby lend us some insight but it seems like White had lost a step after his injury and with the Stamp's defensive system you need that speed form the linebackers.

Watch and see if the guys up highway 2 don't have him dressed and in there against us in at least the latter game next week. They have massive holes on d and George is still a great tackler.

that's exactly what I said - granted, he was still effective, just not up to his standards. He was actually pretty good on the run, imo - but was beaten badly in coverage.
He's got a large contract and the veteran cut-down date is coming up pdq. Khalid Abdullah proved last week to be a decent replacement- is younger and cheaper and fits into the system.
I think the Esks are going to be frothing at the mouth for him.
I got a George White jersey last year - should've known this would happen sooner than later
David Allen? Good riddance. Didn't get the opportunity to play, but Wes Cates stole his job against Montreal...hopefully not just a flash in the pan.

Frick while here's hoping that the Ti-kitties make a big play for him.
What's your take on John Grace calf? I know he hasn't been as good this year but has his play slipped that bad to warrant riding the pine? Could he be next?

Yeah, if I was Calgary I would have traded him to Hamilton for absolutely nothing just to make sure that he doesn't end up playing for one of our rivals.

Interesting to note:
The veteran cut-down date is after game 9. What that means is that the Stamps are on the hook for his salary for the rest of the season - this was done on purpose so to not leave the guy out in the cold, show him at least some respect/courtesy (or whatever the term is).
Jiri - as for Grace...I can see him sticking around at least for the end of the year. The Stamps are really high on Cornelius Anthony, so I fully expect him to be starting in 2007.
Grace is great...like White, I wouldn't want to see him go...but the CFL is entering the wonderful world of the salary cap, so if the team gets younger, cheaper (and hopefully better), then so be it. But since he hasn't been cut, I see him sticking around for the rest of the year (if he's not traded).

I got the impression this move had a lot to do with future salary management implications. Like Calf said - younger, faster, cheaper. I don't imagine White's contract was cheap and, going forward, it makes sense to keep the younger guys with as much potential (or more) than White.
It's sad to see him go but all the articles I've read so far seem to indicate mutual respect between White and the Stamps. Classy move to keep paying his salary too.
On a related note, does anyone have access to the Salary Management rules and the CFL collective agreement? I've got a perverse interest in this area of the law and haven't been able to find these documents on my own (as of yet).

Getting rid of Allen and White frees up some salary space, and some import spots, including one of a RB/KR.
Grace to Ham for Holmes anyone???

No link right now - we're fixing up gsg right now...hopeful to have the new forum up and running by next week.
But the basic story is that this one anonymous players wife was posting...she never said who she was, but people put the pieces together. She basically posted what it's like to be a CFL Players wife and what not with these big heartfelt posts...then after a few weeks and she comes with a HUGE post about getting divorced, and she hasn't shown up since...

I think Grace will stick in Stampsland for the rest of the year and will be let go to free agency in the new SMS world. Couple real good players the Stamps will have to part with but that's going to be the reality for most teams come the offseason - especially in the West. Hamilton is probably foaming at the mouth as well looking at the White and potential other cuts coming from not only Calgary but Western teams. Wouldn't be surprised to see White end up there...or Edmonton. I'd say those 2 destinations are most likely.

Whats the deal with Robede? How has he looked?
I haven't really followed his progress, but I thought some big things were expected. And wasn't he drafted as an LB too?

He was drafted as a DT. He hasn't played a whole lot this season seeing as he's third on the depth chart behind Napastuk and Chevrier. Playing in a 3-4, there's only one DT on the field so Robede doesn't see the field much (usually only in short yardage situations).

Its too bad to see George White go. I thought for sure it was gonna be John Grace, but then White ended up getting benched too. It sure is nice to know that the Stamps are once again a classy organization after 2002 thru 2004 - bad years, really bad years.
I don't fully understand the veteran cut down thing you guys are talking about. When did this get put in and how does it work??
