I have really been wondering about this. I have gotten the same piece of leg armour and heavy weapon numerous times.

I have 3 of each... and I started playing when the first expansion dropped so I didn't experience the forever 29 thing. Although, I was 31 and a half for what seemed like months. Took almost 6 weeks to get that final piece of gear for each of my characters.
I know people that made 3 of each until they got the gear, then vaulted it. Made 3 of another character, got the gear, vaulted it... and so on. Then once they got the gear made a character of each class and moved on. That is a little more of an extreme way of doing things, and a lot more time consuming.

I never thought about doing that, at least until I ran a Crota hard mode and 2 weeks in a row I got nothing but energy and shards. I even started deleting the shaders and emblems so I'd at least get something haha.

PoE, was a nice change because you knew what you were getting. I thought it was going to be awesome, but once I got into it it was boring. Took the excitement out of it, getting that unexpected drop you need. The etheric light as well. Thought it was a great idea, but again. Once you got enough to level up your already good gear from everything else the rest of the stuff became obsolete. You weren't really forced to use the new guns cause you didn't need to. Also proved to everyone just how good the VoG weapons were. Sad to give up my Fatebringer, but excited to find another favorite weapon. Early favorite is the Omolon weapons, based on just the aesthetics alone

TTK looks like it'll be a nice change. I really like the idea of having several different battles within the same strike, with different dialogue to accompany it so it's not going to be exactly the same strike every time. How long that lasts, we'll see I guess, but it's a nice touch. Kind of like Diablo with the random maps and events that happen in what seems like a static world.

So even with TTK were gonna need 3 of 1 class. This is turning out to be quite the time sink.

The loot system is supposed to do a better job of guaranteeing drops, so you would probably be better served with one character of each class.

Frankly I could really care less if I am using the best of the best gear. What I do like though is a good story and it irks me that it sounds like they are going with 3 class specific variations of the story.

I'm pretty confident that there will only be one class-specific mission, and it will be to "unlock" the 3d subclass for each class (stormcaller (warlock), sunbreaker (titan), nightstalker (hunter)).

Finally beat Skolas properly with a group of buddies. Wanted to get this done before xpac, and had made it to him a couple times, but never did it proper. 5 hours later after starting, Skolas dead!
 Bring on the xpac!

I haven't even bothered with skolas since they removed burns. Best him twice on void burn, once on solar. The rewards were barely worth it using burns, so I can't justify bothering now that the modifiers seem to be more punishing.

The changes to his health make it a more reasonable boss fight. There's a little bit of RNG with the modifiers and where the mines spawn. Not terribly difficult, just tedious.

I should get around to buying TTK....

If I recall VoG came out a week or two after the launch of vanilla, and Crota's end hard mode came at least a month later.
What I do like is that they designed the raid "hard mode" and then scaled it back, rather then build it and then just increase the level. Hopefully makes for better hard mode encounters then we saw with CE and VOG

Yeah, the community seems pretty bummed about the raid not being available on launch, but it doesn't bother me personally...I won't feel rushed to get through the other content...it sounds like there's going to be lots of side stuff away from the main story, so leveling up might be more fun anyway.

I'd say the consensus I've seen is quite the opposite and they'd much rather have a free 1-2 weeks before dealing with the raid. Crota's End was a bit of a bitch in that the people who finished first had to find out the hard way that you needed at Lv31 which was only possibly by a guy who did the 3x single class gear setup.

I do hope that they announce a date though.
