Milos is also up. And Ivanovic thanks Maria for withdrawing from her section by flaming out in round 1. I know Genie gets a lot of heat from some fans and media, but Ivanovic is really a much bigger disappointment to me. She was in Genie's quarter so that quarter is wide open right now. If Genie gets the confidence going she has an opening here.

Genie is still young, maybe success on the WTA tour came way too quickly and she didn't know how to handle it, I'm still hopeful she can bounce back and be a top player on tour going forward.

That's gotta be a steep fall down the rankings for Nishikori now. Wouldn't even be slightly shocked if Cilic followed out as well. That final last year looks like an aberration.

Does anybody have a deeper pool of talent in men's tennis than France? I know they haven't been able to break through in the majors (pretty tough with guys like Fed, Joker, Murray, and Nadal), but Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, and Simon lead the way and they have young players on the rise as well.

Except French players are wildly inconsistant. They can beat anyone and lose to anyone. It's probably the variety of style that they play. Remember Santoro? Nobody played like him so it can sneak up on other players. Seeded players hate drawing frenchmen in the early rounds.

Paire gets the Turkish Marcel Ilhan (ranked 84) next. I expect him to have a meltdown and lose that one.

Milos up two sets on Tim Smyczek (6-4, 7-6(8)) - Great stab half-volley on set point for Smyczek by Milos in set 2.

I'm gonna keep my expectations for Genie low....but I look at her section and really hope she can take advantage. With Maria, Ivanovic and Suarez Navarro now gone, it's wide open for her to make a run. Start with a win today though, but the draw has been kind to her. Hopefully she can take advantage.

Well that last game of the set epitomized women's tennis. Poor play, didn't seem like either of them wanted it, but Genie takes the first set 6-4.

Genie blew three chances to break the first service game in set two. Lets see if that results in a patented Genie meltdown...

Yeah, Riske's matching Genie for unforced errors, and that is helping a lot. She did a good job of serving her way out of a double fault to deuce though. Genie taking a medical time out now.

On TSN1, Pospisil dropped the first set. That match has no commentary either. It's rather nice.

Vasek drops the first set but it hardly matters; if he wins his next match is against Novak, who destroyed his opponent 1-1-1 in about 65 minutes.

Wait. You don't want to hear more about Serena Williams in a match that has absolutely nothing to do with her?

Aaaaand Genie just turned an easy hold into a bad break of serve. Oi.

And Mango, of course I would! Because I am an American with no knowledge of or care for the rest of the world!

Well there's a potential match changer. Genie gags a 40-0 serve game and Riske is now up a break. That serve has to be one of the worst on tour.

Annnnd break back at love. This truly is the prototypical women's tennis match. Vasek up a break in the 2nd.
