Lancer Evo in Calgary?
For all you motorheads, I saw a white Lancer Evolution VIII in downtown this morning with Alberta plates "4WARNED".
How is this possible? I heard they couldnt' be imported or registered much less insured in Canada due to restrictions on the front mounted intercooler. I've got to say, I always thought that the VIII looked horrible compared to the VII but in person, it really makes an impact. I just kept staring at it. I'm 100% certain it was an Evo and not some lame Lancer with a kit.

2003 - 2007 Lancer Evolution is inadmissable according to the Transport Canada ( link), but the document doesn't specify exactly why.

I don't know how they could have gotten it in Canada. It's impossible to import a car from over seas that is less than 15 years old. But it is possible this person moved from overseas and brought his car with him. That, I know, is allowed.

The EVO III is available in the states.
It is not allowed in Canada because the front mounted intercooler gets damaged in the 8km/h crash test.
You can bring a vehicle with you if you move here from out of country. I believe you have 1 year from the day you or the vehicle lands in Canada before you have to make it conform to DOT regulations.

That means that there are two Evo's in Calgary now. The other one has a plate that says "EVOPWNR".
There was an accidental shipment that made it to Canada, and these cars were registered as just regular old Lancers, so there are a handful of legal evo's around, and unless it had a foreign plate on it, thats what you just saw.

Its a pimped out Lancer. I think it has a more powerful engine and other upgrades. It is like a Subaru WRX Sti.

Except faster, more nimble, and overall better performing (with a crappier interior).
Faster than BMW Z4, Porsche 911, Corvette C6 (not Z06), Gallardo, Miura, etc. around a race track.

Hopefully some final year GTO's "accidently" land in Canada from Oz, and can be registered as G6's!

I don't know why you guys are getting all worked up over this car when you can go to any dealership and buy a Focus Wagon and be as cool as me.

Now if they could just "accidentally" ship Alpina's over...that'll be even better.

Transport Canada screwed up and thought the EVO's were just regular Lancer's. I think about 10 are actually legally registered in Canada before TC finally figured it out.
Hopefully the EVO X will be legal here.... soon.

What's with the stupid looking spoiler on this thing? I think it really cheapens a pretty good car.
