Default What do each of the Flames players need to work on?

Thought this would be a fun thread, what do you think each of the players needs to improve upon this year to become a better player? I will take a stab at a few:

Johnny - get better at roofing after dekes
Backlund - consistency throughout entire year
Monahan - have offensive mindset throughout entire year?
Colborne - continue improved physical play without taking stupid penalties
Giordano - durability? Not really easy to improve upon
Brodie - shooting more
Ferland - picking spots, when to be a beast and when not to be
Raymond - take smarter percentage shots
Hamilton - ? Better with the media lol
Wideman - defensive play
Ramo - play less like fish out of water
Bennett - learn control and when not to take the big hit
Frolik - ?
Hiller - focus at beginning of games
Bouma - keep improving shot?
Jones - drive to the net more
Stajan - produce more offensively

Sorry for total random order heh

Byron - put that damn puck in the net on some of those breakaways

Skate hard, put pucks to the net, stick to our game plan and set the tone out there.

Thanks,

For a big dude, Monahan is pretty soft. It would be awesome if he could add a physical element to his game.

Backlund needs to get better at faceoffs.

Brodie needs to work on his shot. Both power, and knowing when to use it better.

And everyone needs to get better at getting pucks deep and keeping them there.

Brodie - Strength and puck battles. Sucked seeing him go into the corner with Perry or Getz, he lost the battle every time.

Soft is not the right word for Monahan, because that would also imply that he's weak on the puck which he's not. I think he's one of the stronger guys on the team actually which is amazing for a 20-year-old.

Colborne - Generate consistent offense. He has made some brilliant plays, but they are few and far between.
Frolik - Be more offensive minded. Sounded like Treliving wants to see career numbers out of Frolik and already sees him as one of the best 2-way players in the game.
Byron - Learn to deke, shoot, SOMETHING to capitalize on those breakaways!
Johnny - Less shooting from low % angles that are far out. NHL goalies are too big to leave enough space.
Raymond - Don't be like Blake Comeau.
Ortio - Be a boss and take that number 1 spot!
Jones - Contract year, be physical and earn another overpayment with another team.

I think that is right, but the request is more in the line of "more physical". Perhaps he was hurt, but in that Ducks series, he needed to mix it up a bit more to help out Johnny/Jiri.

Byron, the concrete mitts need to go.

Gaudreau, keep on keepin on brother, rookie mistakes were just that.

Monahan, keep growing in the game. No one, and I mean no one is a clutch as you on the Flames.... No one.

Ortio... it is your time now. Carpe Diem.

Colborne, tie everything you showed in glimpses of together. I don't think anyone can stop you once you can become the complete player.

Granlund, add some size, the less you get knocked off of the puck, the greater scoring threat you become. Seriously, once you get stronger you'll be one of the best. That shot needs to be used more.

Ferland, you learned fast in the playoffs against Vancouver, pick your battles better and you're Claude Lemieux lite. Everyone needs one of you.

Bouma..... Block more shots? Less with your hands maybe?

Russell... better positioning when not blocking ll the shots.

Wideman... uhm, better defensively? Keep up that offense.

Backlund... DON"T GET INJURED!!!!!

Raymond... better decision making. Hoping your 2nd season with the Flames irons a lot of the kinks in your game out that weren't there when you played in T.O.

Hudler..... nope, you're good, just keep doing what you're doing, shoeless or not... We love you.

Bennett... Uhm, add some size.

Jooris, consistency.

Don't need to change a thing, just stay healthy - Giordano/Stajan/Jones/Hudler/?Frolik?

Johnny - Just add that "Paul Byron" factor of being a total havoc-maker without the puck, that would be awesome. Improve strength on shot as well.
Monahan - Better defensive positioning, more aggressiveness along the boards as he's the biggest guy on that hudler line
Backlund - Faceoffs, be a bit more dangerous on the PP
Jooris - Play like October/November Jooris offensively all year long
Ferland - Just facing continually better competition and producing offensively to his skillset
Bennett - Become good enough at centre responsibilities to push Monahan/Backlund down the depth chart and then win Conn Smythe
Shore - Earn Hartley's trust as a two-way player and roll with it
Bouma - Successfully carry the puck in more often, reduce dump-ins
Byron - FINISH!
Granlund - Faceoffs, defensive aggressiveness, offensive aggressiveness
Colborne - Less hesitation with puck. Play like Game 1 VS Canucks Colborne every game.
Raymond - increase trade value during preseason
Bollig - increase trade value during preseason

Brodie - Getting pucks through to the net. Not being Engelland's linemate.
Hamilton - Get stronger, generally just improve all around game
Russell - be more aggressive breaking up other team's cycle and trust Hamilton to cover for him
Wideman - Hitting the net from the left circle
Engelland - Not being Brodie or Smid's linemate
Smid - not being Engelland's linemate
Schlemko - Getting signed

Hiller - Glove hand in the first 2 minutes of games
Ramo - Improve consistency.
Ortio - Win every single game possible so they can't send him down.

Raymond - take smarter percentage shots, blind drop passes/turnovers
Hamilton - ? Better with the media lol
Wideman - defensive play
Ramo - play less like fish out of water
Bennett - learn control and when not to take the big hit, keep his head up and protect himself on the ice, faceoffs
Frolik - increase offensive output (like Hartley stated)
Hiller - focus at beginning of games, glove hand, freezing the puck
Bouma - keep improving shot?
Jones - drive to the net more, not get injured
Stajan - produce more offensively

Gaudreau - Work on his upper body strength to keep him from getting knocked off the puck.

Ramo - Work on his side to side movement in the net so that he's not losing the angle and ending up out of position in regards to the shot taken.

A few players that I am hopeful could have huge improvement seasons:

Colborne- finishing, more offensive output, shooting more
Backlund - consistency, faceoffs
Granlund - get stronger
Ferland - staying healthy, consistent play and managing/controlling his physical game
Giordano - healthy for the playoffs brother!

And maybe Ramo could improve his mental consistency but I think we may have seen his best goaltending already. We'll see.

Just keep listening to Bob and The assistant coaches. ...meritocracy is working....never giving up gets you rewarded.

We gained confidence making the playoffs and beating a team we should have beat.

We learned what we need to be better at losing.

Everybody plays like they did like last year minus in juries and rookie mistakes we get closer to winning it all.

Bob's running a hockey team not a nursing home

First thing that came to my mind.

Also,
Colborne--stronger on the puck.
Raymond--ditto.
