Default Short Man Syndrome

Is real?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/scie...-conclude.html

Quote:
Although it is traditionally supposed that ‘macho’ men are the most prone to acts of aggression, in fact outsiders who feel that they do not fit gender stereotypes are equally as dangerous.
Sometimes called the Napoleon complex, small man syndrome supposes that men who feel the least masculine seek power, war and conquest to make up for their physical shortcomings.
Quote:
They analysed responses of 600 US men aged between 18 and 50 in 2012 to an online survey about their perceptions of male gender, their own self-image, and behaviour such as drug taking, violence and crime.
The men who considered themselves less masculine than average and who experienced male discrepancy stress were nearly three times more likely to have committed violent assaults with a weapon or assaults resulting in injury to the victim than those who didn't worry about it.

A small sample size of 600 seems appropriate.

I am 6'.

Always hard to one-off a small sample size with such diverse historical figures. Or stupid. I meant stupid.

Wasn't Napoleon also considered average height for his time?

Yes he was. I believe the concept of him being a small man was primarily British propaganda during the Napoleonic wars.

Even if the sample was 50,000, it would still be dumb.

I would say thats mostly true. Tom Cruise is very short but Mathew Perry is at least 6'2. I know the ones that are short do not like to be next to anyone who is taller than them. One woman I know went to a celebrity gold tournament and there was a big named actor there. He stuck to her all day because she was one of the few women shorter than him and would refuse to take pictures with women taller than him.

Short men can be manly, but everyone wishes that they were taller.

I’m tall (6’5) and I would say that a 1/3 of the time I go out to the bar, or a place where alcohol is involved I am indirectly, and occasionally directly challenged to a fight by a shorter – normally much shorter – dude. Many of my friends are also very tall and we all share this experience. It know that’s anecdotal but take it for what you will.

I don't start fights at bars, but I've had plenty of tall deltas try to shove their way through or cut in front of me just because they feel like they can.

I heard that Hollywood actors tend to have larger than average heads. Or maybe large heads proportionate to smaller bodies. I don't know.

I'm just going to say a lot of times you have no idea that you literally just shove people out of the way or expect people to move for you just because you're tall.

As a shorter than average 5'8" male, the amount of times I just get shoved by a taller dude at a bar is so ridiculously common. Average (like up to 6') dudes usually are more aware of themselves and make the effort to get around each other. Of course, I don't fight so I just let it happen.

Sounds like you're prescribing to the Turtle Theory of Hollywood Success:

"The bigger the star, the bigger the head. Bruce Willis? Big head. Russell Crowe? Big head. Arnold Schwarzenegger? Big head. Vincent Chase? Big, big head." - Turtle

In all seriousness, I think there is a bit of validity to it. I watched This Means War the other day, man Chris Pine has a gigantic head. That guy must need specially made hats or something.
