Upgraded from Windows 7 this afternoon and the installation was smooth as silk. Spent a while on changing my privacy settings, Microsoft tries to data mine the crap out of you.

Is there a site that maintains a fairly decent an up to date list of things that should be disabled? I've gone through the privacy sections to adjusted those, found the one with Microsoft using your bandwidth to help other PC's with Windows updates. Any others that have been found?

I haven't found a complete list no, I've only looked over my privacy settings. There are step by step instructions for turning off P2P windows updates here http://www.pcworld.com/article/29554...s-systems.html

anyone have a concrete example where the personal data collection activities of a large technology company (MS, Google/Alphabet, Apple, etc.) directly resulted in negative consequences for an individual? as in, beyond creepily specific advertising?
ever since Scott McNealy of Sun said that nobody has any privacy anyhow, so get over it (like a decade and a half ago), I haven't really cared at all about what types of profiling gets done on me, because in almost all cases it's beneficial for my online experience.
btw, I don't consider things like the Target credit card hack or similar commercial breaches quite the same thing. I'm talking about the maker of your OS gathering data about you. the only thing I ever worry about is Cortana digging up enough dirt on me that she gets too disgusted and leaves.

I personally don't care if the government or large corporations spy on me. I've got nothing to hide, my day to day life hasn't changed one iota, and if spying on me adjusts advertisements that are more tailored to my preferences, how is that a bad thing? If I have to watch ads, I want to watch ones that matter to me, damnit.

Got two bluescreen errors today, after almost 2 weeks with no issues. WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR, and KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. I'm hoping it's simply due to unstable drivers, since I'm running a beta Creative X-Fi driver until official support comes out next month. If that doesn't fix it though I may have to drop back to 7

Running into problems with triple screen gaming (as in using them in 5460 x 1080). The UI seems to be scaled and makes windows very large. As well, it seems the resolution in some windows doesn't match the resolution of the monitor, so you have this weird mix of sharp and fuzzy graphics.
Also leaves some games incapacitated in that mode. Have to play with single screen.

Updated my laptop to 10 today, nothing earth shattering. Edge is ok but seems slower than Chrome to me at least for loading web pages. It's pretty though so that's nice.
What sucks is I lost my ability to scroll using the touchpad. Now it just sits there. Was there some wifi setting I needed to change so other people can't use it? Hopefully this touchpad issue is just a driver thing because I'd switch back over that, never realized how often I use it.

One finger or two finger scrolling? I had a weird issue with one of my laptops where the side scrolling stopped working, and when I accidentally tried two finger scrolling (from other laptop), it worked.

Two finger. The little up arrow/dot/down arrow icon appears but just doesn't move (if that makes sense).

Have you tried moving your fingers in the opposite direction? Reverse scrolling might be on and maybe you're scrolling "into" the top of a browser?
(I keep doing this on my laptop because the stupid reverse scrolling setting and default settings keep resetting.)

**** this is the worst thing ever, I've spent enough time on this it would have been cheaper to not have the Windows 10 update be free and I pay for new license.
I'm not sure how I did it but I think I'm keeping it at bay. I went into Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads and deleted the folder that was 2+GB, and removed the KB installs they suggested to remove and removed the Windows\System32\GWX folder... Now at least when I install some Windows update that isn't Windows 10 it doesn't just start installing Windows 10.
It still *says* it is, but it just installs the update I want while telling me it's downloading Windows 10. It then prompts me to schedule the install (no option to not install still), I ignore that and reboot and it doesn't seem to come back, but the other update I want seems to be installed properly.
Holy hell, just trying to get some work done...

Not sure if this has been posted, but I found this link in order to remove the Windows 10 notification icon in the system tray easily and make it stay gone for those that have decided to stick with their current OS version, as I have on all our house computers.

Is it just me, or has there not actually been a lot of progress in OS'es other than voice recognition? I haven't had a need for any of the other major upgrades such as fast and secure boots, app store, etc. And DirectX 12 is still a little young. I was hoping we'd have smarter OS'es by now.
Examples would be my OS telling me why my USB3 port isn't getting full speed, or how to correct my settings to transfer files to another PC faster. One item I always come across is the way I use my windows when opening a bunch of files. I want it to learn that I'm trying to open 10 links and to stop popping each one up in front of my main window.
Anyway, just some thoughts, I still have the movie Her in my head since I watched it last week. But I dont need a sexy OS, just a smart one

Hey sorry for the old-ass post quote, but I finally got around to installing WIN 10.
Do you recommend Edge for PC? I've been a life-long Firefox user...

BTW.. The only issue I had during install was that at the reboot, I guess my computer went to the onboard video, because the resolution was horrid. I actually had a hard time locating the nvidia install file to install my gtx 750ti because the resolution was so bad.

I'm hoping someone here can offer some advice on what I'd like to do:
- I have Windows 10 running fine, but I'd like to switch to a new SSD from my old Hard drive running Windows.
- The old HDD is set in IDE mode, and I'd like to run the SSD in AHCI. I tried to switch to AHCI in my BIOS but then the old HDD won't load Windows.
- I'm going to download Windows 10 onto a USB for the fresh install. I've backed up my files off my old hard drive. What should the order of operations be here?
I'm thinking...
- Unplug old HDD. Plug in new SSD.
- Boot computer, change to AHCI mode and boot order to USB in BIOS.
- Boot from USB, install Windows 10 onto new SSD.
Now here's the tricky part...will the computer recognize the old hard drive at all after this since it's currently formatted in IDE mode? I figure it couldn't right now because it's booting Windows from it, but I'm hoping that order would allow me to plug in the old HDD and format it from Windows with no issues.
Thanks!

You do not need to install all over again. I did the same switch you did in Windows 7, all you need is to boot into recovery and install the ACHI drivers.
http://solotechpros.com/2014/03/27/i...after-install/
It booted properly after that. I'm sure the process will be similar in Windows 10

Myself, I'm sticking with Firefox as Edge doesn't have any add-ons. On the Edge plus side though it does handle YouTube better as it uses less resources when playing 4K videos but that's if you can stand all the advertising.
