Congrats! I'm loving being a STH. Lots of benefits, like parties/dinners and I've won two jerseys the last two years, which is an awesome benefit. Although I'm sure my luck will run out in that regard.

I have a friend who shares his tickets 5 ways. They do a draft.
Everyone in their group gets together at someone's house, and they all draw a number out of a hat. The number you draw out of the hat is your "draft order" for round 1. Then they snake each round (so the guy who picks last in round 1 picks first in round 2).
After the whole season is divided up, if any tickets are left they can be purchased by anyone at face value, or the group can agree to try and sell them to the public.

That's pretty much exactly how we do it also. Works out fairly, as everyone has a chance to aim for the teams and matches they'd like to see.

Same here. Only difference is we do not have an even split, so depending on the round some people have one, two or three picks. Also at the beginning we ask if there are any "must see" games for anybody. The key to a good STH group is cooperation; not competition. So if we know somebody wants a particular game, nobody else tries to snag it early.

Random drafts? To me tickets should be based on feats of strength like Indian leg wrestling or standing broad jump.....

For people splitting tickets between more than 2 people, how do you decide playoffs?

Last year we split playoffs equally between the 4 of us. Each of us got to pick one ticket for the first round. Then we drew 2 people to get the extra ticket. The person drawn had a choice to take that ticket in the 1st round, or defer to round 2.
One of the guys chose to defer, so I ended up going to two games in the first round; in spite of not being drawn.
Now my own pick for round 1 was game 6. So had the Flames won in 5- I lost that ticket. No extra consideration for the next round.

5 way split. Draw order and pick in order 40 games. We sell the one game and all go for beer with it at season end.

I split mine with a friend. We draft it, but I stipulate that I get home opener and the NYE game. After that it's a back and forth pick. I end up usually only making it to 15 games, so I try to pick the bread winners. Aka, leafs, Habs, etc... And then sell them for an outrageous profit!

There's six of us and an uneven amount of games. We do a snake draft and the season ticket owner takes the first two draft picks (he has twice the amount of games as others).
Playoffs is a random snake draw per ticket (we're all friends so go to playoff games together). Home game #1 ticket #1, home game #1 ticket #2, etc. That way we can draw the entire playoffs without knowing how deep they're going. The season ticket owner takes the first home game ticket.
We also have a rule that if you can't make a game, you have to try and trade it or sell it at cost within the group. If nobody wants to go, only then can you sell your tickets to the public.

I split with a friend. We both go to the home opener. And then split the next 40 games to make sure each of us get and equal number of weekend/premium/crap games.
Playoff are easy. Each get one game and then if any more games we go together.

I have 6 in my group (including myself). I decide how many games I want to go to and then let the other guys (based on seniority) decide how many games they want. I have a five game minimum though. In my group one guy gets five games, one guy always takes seven, another always takes eight and the other tow divvy up what's left.
I draw a random order and we do a serpentine draft for 2 rounds from that. Then each guys name is put into a hat for each remaining game they have. So the guy with seven games has his name put in the hat five times. Then all the names are drawn out and that is the order for the rest of the draft. With a three pick maximum, meaning if your name is drawn four times in a row that fourth time is thrown back and I re-pick till a new name is drawn.
The four guys with the most games all have to take one pre-season game so nobody ends up with more than one.
Seems complicated but we've been doing it this way for years and it's boiled down to this being the fairest...for us anyways.

Draft strategy: ask the wife. Then, you won't lose and life will be good.
Otherwise, pick high-value teams, teams you are interested in, weekend-afternoon games (so few of them lately).

Where do you find these types of groups? Do you sign up on the Flames website? I'd definitely be interested in splitting 4,5,6 ways but I'm not a STH.

We pick the dates that we are free, and then flip a coin to see who picks which game first so we see which teams intrigue us
