The flames run their business like a not for profit in that the owners do not withdrawl, but reinvest earnings.

The Stampede and all of it's committees are a clust^&%* of self indulgence, though it's finally started cleaning up a bit with their removal from the retail side of it

I agree but the Flames don't. As long as they insist on a super complex to house every sport under their umbrella, it's not happening

To be fair, Cappy doesn't quite have even 4% of the replies in this discussion. 96% is enough for the other ~1,200 active members. That's almost 0.08% for each of us!

The Stampede did just fine for 70 years before the Flames, and it will do just fine for 70 more after them.

Also, per the Calgary Herald article posted earlier, the board has already stated that it doesn't think the loss of the Flames would generate a significant hit to its revenues.

I'm late to the party as I've been away, but I don't get the football field/ "field house". Will this be where the Tayler Swift concertrs are going to be held? I would hope that a new arena would be built so that it could house a Tayler Swift concert, deeming a field house unnecessary. A new football field is right down at the bottom of the needs and wants list. It is the CFL, and they play 8 home games per season, seems like a huge pile of money for very little usage.

One thing that wasn't mentioned in this proposal, and I don't think most people would have a problem is a city sales tax, 1% or 2% to go towards the funding in place or as part of the cities contribution

Does the Stampede not want the Saddledome land to develop for themselves?

Hamilton, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Regina disagree

The CFL hasn't played 16 game regular seasons since 1985. So yeah, pretty late.

WHOOAA, pardon me, I guess it is 9 games. I have a whole new outlook about a new football field...

The city is grossly short on indoor soccer facilities, that don't collapse when they get snowed on. The field house would be well utilized year-round.

I may have missed it being posted in this thread, but here's a radio interview with Rob Kerr and Ken King: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/t...s-calgarynext/

Interesting that he's already started including the ticket tax into the "private" contribution by the Flames so that it's $450 million in private funding.

Because the Flames ownership just took a huge dump on the entire cities head. This dumpster fire of a "proposal" has everyone in a pissy mood. As is, I hope this proposal doesn't even see the bottom of a trash bin. It deserves to be incinerated. This proposal tries to please everyone by offering everything, in reality it pleases no one because everything is mediocre, underwhelming, and flat out amateur. That fieldhouse/stadium takes the cake. I can't imagine sitting in that convention centre gymnasium on a hot sunny labour day. I'd rather keep the Saddledome and McMahon for the next two decades if it means aborting this mess. The Flames should be building two separate facilities that are specific for its use. An indoor arena that hosts hockey, lacrosse, and concerts, and a stadium for CFL and soccer.

I'm guessing it's because there's a lot of disappointment going around. We wanted an offer we couldn't refuse, and what we got so far has even the most die-hard building supporters wondering why we're still waiting to be wowed.

Pissy or not, all of this discussion is pretty telling to me.
