If the city owns the building, that changes everything.

That's actually amazing.

Can one get to the area by kayak? Will there be kayak parking?

Maybe we can just push out the people soliciting in the parks

Is this typical of most arenas, or are most privately owned?

That's a point that a lot of people have glazed over or missed, it's a lot of public dollars but it will be much more justified if this is a city asset.

It wont be that.

Even back in bronconnier days the city talked about a CRL for the west village and if anything its more in favor now.

What was the east village CRL investment, something like $350m so far?

The city will either front a few hundred million for this plan, or a few hundred million for their own, but either way its going to happen.

Those of us who are more cynical will interpret that as meaning they want the city to pay for the land clean up.

Did you actually just compare Glendale to Calgary?
Give your head a shake, the fan base is completely different.

Not sure who would get displaced.
If you are worried about people renting, then have the city put in rent control legislation for the area covering the next 10-15 years.

If its people who own homes in the area they don't have to sell, but if they decide to they are going to make more money then than their homes are worth now.

Calgary owns the Saddledome. That worked out pretty well, I'd say.

If it's city owned, does that mean there won't a stupid company label attached to the name?

Assuming the city gets some form of revenue through owning it that changes the sentiment from "Taxpayers giving money to Billionaires" to "Billionaires giving money to tax payers"

It really seems like a lot of people were just waiting for this announcement so they could complain.

Fieldhouse is a want for the city anyway, and for the same price the city was going for.

Ticket tax makes sense, as a game pack holder I have no issue with this.

Really in my mind the only thing up for debate is the CRL.

For transit there is no reason that the city cannot have a dozen more busses doing loops through downtown whenever there is a large capacity event taking place that night. People would park downtown if they were coming in, or they would already be downtown because they work there.
Simple options available.
