I wouldn't get too excited (good or bad) about this drawing - even if it is real. Looks to me like its just a vision of what it "might" look like. Much like the early drawings of the stadium in Regina. The end result ended up looking nothing like that. Probably the same case here. They probably haven't even hired an architect yet. I'm just hoping this creates a positive buzz in our city and we get it done right.
Yeah, I'm thinking they just release "visions" today too. I'd be surprised if we get an accurate rendering. But we shall see!

The whole thing in that rendering is red, outside of the glass component. What rendering are you looking at?
Sorry fellas, but red on the outside is just cheesy and takes the class of something like this down a notch. Not even Edmonton was stupid enough to go with team colors to any discernible degree on the exterior envelope. I don't think I can think of many huge arena projects that have done it either.
Calgary's a red city. The Peace Bridge isn't sporting team colours, just flashing more Calgary red.
Max Bell should be burned to the ground. Was there literally a competition on how to make it the ugliest color scheme in the world? Yellow & red would do it. Barf.
The Corral is a beauty. Timeless.

I question the need to add more red, yet again, to our arena buildings. That would be short-sighted IMO.
No, short sighted would be to take the University of Calgary approach where they took the current modern version of each new building when it was build rather than continue a sandstone or color theme throughout. Now you have a world class university with a campus of mix matched buildings which look ridiculous when put together.

Does it seriously ####ing matter what colour it is?
Personally, I am angry that the ice rink will be a rectangle with rounded corners. Everyone else does that, and it is so cliché. I want my ice surface to be a perfect diamond!
AND NO RED LINE

No goal lines either! No winners and losers in this rink; we don't keep track of score. After 60 minutes, fair play and FUN are the goal.
Some may think it is cheesy, but I wouldn't mind LEDs (like the Allianz Arena) where it can be lit up different colours for special occasions, or even just random colours.
That might be an even money bet or better. They are being installed as part of new sponsorship at McMahon and the conversation would have involved at least a thought to what might happen in a new building.

Exactly. This is the vision, not the final product.
Whatever we see today, even for just the arena and stadium will be concept more than final design. As for the other surrounding buildings, those will almost certainly be "built to suit" for whoever builds there.
Look at the East Village rendering from 2009...
It's about helping people visualize what's possible, so that they can build what actually works for the site.
