If you want someone to keep their mouth shut, especially on a forum, you have that option. Don't click the thread. And if you don't like someone recanting what they saw, dismiss it. No ones forcing you to believe it, but don't chastize the guy for saying what he saw.

TLDR: if you don't like people's information, discontinue reading.

Lol, that's truly very funny.

Just a little FYI, when a celeb comes into your bar and wants to spend a little money you exchange pleasantries to get an idea what his(male as an example) needs are and put your best wait staff on him and keep an eye out from afar to make sure he's not being pestered.

What you don't do is follow him around like a puppy and never act like he's your buddy, believe it or not most celebs just want to be treated as normal as possible and have a good time.

What he said he saw could easily be observed by glancing over every 20-30 minutes. It was pretty general things that don't require you to be hiding behind the bar with binoculars for the entire night.

Not too familiar with the legal process in a rape case, particularly in that jurisdiction but is it odd, or somewhat telling either way that charges have not been laid over a week after this story broke?

I don't think it's too telling. They usually take a while to investigate and this kind of case they will take extra time because of the high profile. It may be a little telling as they didn't just dismiss the case quickly as bogus. There seems to be some substance to the complaint and that would be my guess why it is taking a while. But I have no inside knowledge of anything in this case.

I don't think that it would be that unusual. Especially considering this "incident" doesn't appear to be the type of case where they are fairly "sure" an attack took place and they are simply trying to confirm the identity of the accused attacker (in this case Kane).

This case appears to be more along the lines of they are probably sure that an "act" was committed and they are fairly sure who it was committed by. What they are likely trying to establish is whether this "act" was a crime or not which I'm sure is a lot tougher to sort through from an evidence perspective and to get to a point where you can be confident enough to lay charges (if that's what the investigation reveals). A whole lot more relying on witness testimony in that case, and victim and alleged attacker testimony as well. Tougher to build a case for charges when that is the foundation you have to go on and likely takes longer to pull it all together.

It took 6 weeks for Mike Tyson.

Quote:

July 18, 1991 - Tyson meets Desiree Washington, a Miss Black America contestant, at a pageant rehearsal. They go to the boxer's hotel room in the early morning hours.

July 22, 1991 - Washington files a complaint with police accusing Tyson of rape.

Sept. 9, 1991 - A special grand jury indicts Tyson on rape and three other charges. Two days later, he is booked in Indianapolis and released on $30,000 cash bond.

Feb. 10, 1992 - After nine hours of deliberation, Tyson is found guilty on one count of rape and two counts of deviate sexual conduct.

March 26, 1992 - Superior Court Judge Patricia Gifford sentences Tyson to 10 years in prison, suspending four. She orders him to serve the term immediately.

Could the fact he was the scariest black man on the planet have played into it? Fact that he beat people up for a living?

Yes even beat up his wife regulary, and people said she was a golddigger. I'll assume he raped her, thats why he was found guilty.

We were discussing time. Thanks for over-reacting though.

You are welcome. I didnt realize your message was to be taken so literal. Agree, he was a scary black man and beat up people. (he didnt even get paid for beating up his actress wife!) but yes. He beat people for a living so that had bearing on the poor guys fate.

Hell, Bobby Hull was a horrific wife-beater and that guy has a statue.

Just happens to be in front of the stadium where Kane plays.

I really hope the Hawks do the right thing and keep Kane out of games while under investigation and not just wait to see if/when charges are laid.

Let him practice, let him train and even travel if you want. But for the love of god, don't let him play.

Are you just looking for a reason to get upset? Where did I write anything about feeling sorry for him? I was asking an honest question if maybe part of the reason he was convicted so quickly was in part due to who he was. I was 6 years old when it happened. Lighten up.

Don't have to look for a reason. The whole subject is very unsettling, I'm not sure why you feel like correcting me. First the time line. Your comment on scary black men wasn't about the timeline, why correct mine? I never said you felt sorry for him, just a general feeling about his public persona. No. I'm not "lightening up" as this is serious to me. I am allowed to comment on this.

My post is right after the Tyson time line was posted. I think I'd know what I was commenting on better than you. The 3 posts before that were also talking about time as it relates to rape cases. No one was discussing the details of his case. And yes comment as you please just don't tell me what I mean when I post. You litterally created an issue out of nothing.

Even though the chances of the investigation still being open with no charges in October when the season starts likely makes my point moot; If Kane wasn't charged with anything come October, I'd hope that in the interest of innocent until proven guilty that he'd be allowed to resume his career business as usual, until further notice from Buffalo police.

I get the emotions surrounding this, and again it looks bad for Kane at this point and I'm sure we'll see charges. However, IF we don't see charges laid by then, it would be the definition of guilty until proven guilty/innocent to say "Yeah, you haven't been charged with anything, but everyone's skeptical and doesn't like you so you can't continue your career at this point".

I have a feeling charges could be just weeks away. Obviously I was not there, but when you combine the fact that the victim only went there to make sure her friend was not alone, physical evidence (bite marks, etc), and several people of the woman saying he is of good character, and would not make this up, I suspect charges will be laid.

Combine that with Kane's history (cabbie incident and the 2011 frat house party in Madison, WI), the NHL should do the right thing and suspend him.

The suspension of Voynov was imposed under Section 18-A.5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which relates to commissioner discipline for off-ice conduct. The section grants fairly sweeping powers to Gary Bettman with regards to “conduct (whether during or outside the playing season) that is detrimental to or against the welfare of the League or the game of hockey.”

Specifically, subsection 5 states that the league may suspend a player “subject to a criminal investigation by any governmental authority, or in the event of an ongoing civil proceeding where the Player has been named as a defendant ... pending the League’s formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League.”

http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/08/14/pat...ago-blackhawks

If the NHL does not suspend Kane for at least 1/2 the season, then it's no better than the NFL. At least Ben Roethlisberger was suspended in 2010, with no charges being pressed. Considering the NHL has traditionally come down harder for off-ice behavior that would be considered detrimental to the league, I expect a full year suspension

If Kane is convicted of rape, he should be banned from the NHL for life.

Thankfully the statue is in Chicago, not Winnipeg.

Let's not forget he is also a racist, who proclaimed Hitler had some good ideas.

The Winnipeg Jets invited several former Jets alumni (Hawerchuk, Steen, etc.) for the home opener in 2011. Bobby Hull was omitted from that list, for good reason.

Default Off-duty officer was Kane’s driver on night of alleged rape

Quote:
An off-duty Buffalo police lieutenant served as Patrick Kane’s chauffeur on the night the hockey star was accused of raping a young woman in his Town of Hamburg home.

Lt. Thomas English told The Buffalo News that he drove Kane, the alleged rape victim, her female friend and a male friend of Kane’s to the National Hockey League player’s home on Old Lake Shore Road early on the morning of Aug. 2.

English said investigators from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office have interviewed him as they investigate the allegation against Kane.

English said he supports Kane, a longtime family friend who has employed him for the past five years. In photos that could be viewed on English’s Facebook page as recently as Thursday, he is seen with the Stanley Cup at a celebration with Kane in 2010.

Law enforcement sources told The News that Buffalo police are conducting an internal investigation to determine whether English was with Kane at any time he was supposed to be on duty the night of the alleged rape. Authorities said English was scheduled to work a half-shift that night at the police cell block and took a half-shift off on that night as personal leave time. English said he took the entire shift off with personal leave time.

Of English, a Buffalo police official said, “We are not aware of any allegations of improper activity by the off-duty officer in dealing with Kane or the alleged victim that night.”

This is what English said he told investigators:

He was not with Kane or at Kane’s house during the time the woman has alleged that Kane overpowered and raped her, leaving her with a scratched leg and bite marks on both her shoulders.

But English said he was with Kane and the alleged victim, and other friends, for a couple of hours early that morning at SkyBar, a downtown nightclub, before driving Kane and the three others to Hamburg. He said that after dropping them off, he left.

English said he was with Kane and Thomas Cowan, a Buffalo restaurateur, the entire time they were at SkyBar and witnessed no inappropriate behavior there or on the drive to Kane’s home.

“It was a mutual agreement to go hang out at the house,” English said.
