I think the term is more important than the dollar amount

I believe at the NHL awards he said he was close to 100%
There is also lots of video on Instagram of him and Jooris working out and it looks like it's not bother him at all

So we'll like the dollar amount but probably not the term then.
So something like 6 years X 6.5-7?

6 years @ 6.75MAAV. Year 1 salary is $9M and year 6 salary is $4.5M.

He said he would have been able to give it a go if they got to the conference finals. I think it is safe to assume he is 100% now.

I'm still a bit leery until we see him on the ice. You never know how he is going to respond. Sometimes players having serious injuries like the one Gio suffered don't bounce back to their normal self. I'd hate to have a newly signed long term contract for a player that isn't the same player.
I wouldn't be shocked if that's why he hasn't been signed yet. The cap is going to be an issue moving forward, and having a bad contract can cause problems. If he's 100%, then a 7.5/6 deal isn't bad for what he brings. If not, then hold off and see if he'll re-sign for less (5.5-6 per)

Man, how effective will Gio be late on in his career? $7.5 AAV for a 37 year old Gio makes me nervous with guys like Mony, Johnny & Bennett set to become big time players, Dougie and Brodie already there, and no concrete long-term goalie plan. Scary.

I was way more concerned when he detached that muscle in his hip (or whatever it was - it looked painful). Anything that could hinder his skating is a huge concern.
A bicep injury seems like something modern medicine has a handle on. But I say that from a place of complete ignorance.
Regardless, he doesn't skate on his biceps

I agree with you. I'm way more concerned with some of our players' wrist injuries.

To be "happy"... 4 years or less at $7M or less. 3 years @ $6M would be "thrilling".

If it's only 2 or 3 years anything under 8 would be fine for me.
3 x $6 million would be unreal

Out of curiosity, how much do you think the Flames current direction factors into what he is asking for. I think he can see that if things continue to pan out then in a couple years the Flames may have a legitimate window. I know the NHLPA would frown upon it but would having a chance to win be enough to help the team lower the AVV for the future?

You could always do what the Hawks did with Campbell later on to make cap room if necessary (when Gio's 36/37 and if he's regressed to a larger extent)

I agree, but it seems like this management takes rehab VERY seriously. I think we have a good chance of Gio playing out a long career and sitting amongst (or between) Regehr and Iggy for most games played.

@jkeatz33 is the Instagram account. Gio is looking at 100% for his rehab and I would say Jooris is 90-95% for his wrist. No more sleeve for the wrist as it it just a band now. Both should be expected to be 100% by training camp.

Or the dumbest 32 year old superstar ever!
Anything less that 6 years should give Treliving GM of the year.

The bicep is a simple muscle with a very limited range of motion, it's main function is as a stabilizer, not as a power generator. It's the more complicated muscle groups that are the most difficult to heal (ie - shoulder). This pretty much exhausts my knowledge on the bicep.
