Icon45 Updated: Setoguchi Signs PTO with Leafs. Released. Signs in Switzerland

Glenn Campbell ‏@CTVGCampbell 17 minutes ago
Taking advantage of a 2nd chance. Devon Setoguchi says he's gone to rehab, been clean and sober for 5 months, close to signing with #leafs

Sober for 5 months he says? Well, good for him and I honestly hope he straightens out. I thought he played hard while he was here and Hartley was giving him a solid chance, but if he has only been sober for 5 months then I guess it says a lot about his first 'second chance/possible last chance' in Calgary.

Who would have thought Setoguchi would get a contract before Glencross?

Setoguchi and I have mutual friends and I know for a fact he named Ferland as his source of inspiration for sobriety and trying to turn things around. Best of luck to him.

As for Ferland, he just keeps on giving!

Maybe the Leafs loved the Demers/Versteeg dance video and felt sorry for him.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he fell off the wagon when he was sent to Adirondack.

Hard to believe the guy is only 28 still. A shame things didn't work out here. Hopefully he'll get a good chance in Toronto.

Good for Setoguchi. Didn't know about sobriety issues. Good on him to get help. Takes a lot of courage to do that. I hope he gets his life back on track.

I had no idea about the sobriety issues either. Kind of changes my perspective on his time here. Here's hoping he has sorted things out for himself.

Default Setoguchi to Sign with Leafs

Nothing like celebrating sobriety by getting married and having awesome friends who would be willing to entertain the crowd off the ice

I had the same reaction as the guy in the last GIF.

EDIT: And I guess my Avatar too.

How many bargain basement signings do the Leafs need to finalize the tank? They know they only have to place 30th to be in last place right? The way they are building this team you think they are shooting for 35th place, just to be on the safe side

A tanker can't be too careful. The Sabres thought they had McDavid in the bag.

Didn't know he had issues with substance abuse. Good for him for making an effort to turn his life around. Hopefully it all works out for him.

Sobriety issues explain alot for his early tenure with the flames.

He should have a pretty good shot at some decent ice time if this falls into place. Hope he can get his career back on track.

Don't like this for the Leafs, the guy is done at the NHL level. He didn't have a 1 or even 2 year blip of bad play, he's pretty much been trending downward since his rookie year. This is a 4-6 year trend. Happy for him getting clean though.

I guess the question is now that he has gone to rehab and is sober, will that allow him to recover his game?
Think about it, achieve such highs, fall from that high point, start drinking, play worse, drink more, etc.
I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt with this new information coming to light.
