How is Pospisil a wild card? Isn't his ranking high enough to qualify on merit?

I think only the top 40 ranked players get in without qualifying, plus 8 qualifying spots and 8 wildcards (and things like protected rankings and lucky losers etc..) for the 56 person field. Vasek (now ranked 49) kinda got screwed by the DC tournament moving its schedule which lost him the 250 points he got from making the final last year.

I'm really, really, really tired of Sportsnet's "Anything's Pospisil!"play on words.

Speaking of Vasek, he's taking on John Isner on the Stadium Court (looks like the late match) in Washington tonight. With Murray being upset by Gabashvili, if Vasek can get by Isner, he has an excellent chance of making the semi-finals.

Sounds like Genie has moved on from Sam Sumyk as her head coach.

Isner wins in straight sets (6-4, 7-6 (8-6 in the tie-breaker). Oh well.

Out of 5 Canadian men in qualifying, Schnur was the only one that won. He beat the 98th ranked Belgian Bemelmans. That's 16 big ATP points.

He gets Lu tomorrow for a place in the main draw.

Maybe the rumors of her being really difficult to coach are true?

That's not exactly an easy opening round match for Milos, I think I'd prefer Janowicz over the hard serving Karlovic.

Karlovic won.

Monfils vs Fognini. No drama at all

Fognini melting down in the second set. He'll be lucky if he doesn't lose it 6-1 at this point.

Pospisil in the afternoon, Raonic and Bouchard at night.

Pospisil and Raonic should win. Bouchard is a big underdog, don't expect her to win.

If Genie takes a set tonight that's a pretty decent night. Bencic is a much better player now. What a difference a year makes at the Rogers Cup, expectations couldn't be any lower right now whereas last year they couldn't be any higher. Though it should be noted the only time she put together a few matches was in Australia without a coach, so maybe she'll play better without a coach.

Oh brother, the women's tour is so unpredictable (except for Serena currently) that anybody can beat anybody on any given day. Genie's main issue right now is confidence, but it also goes hand-in-hand with match strategy. Somehow, she got in the mindset that she has to paint lines with her groundstrokes and try to end points as quickly as possible. That leaves her little margin for error and when you are missing those shots, it hurts your confidence and pumps up your opponent. It will be interesting watching her tonight to see if she has the ability to construct some points in her favour.

Gasquet has pulled out of the Rogers Cup with a wonky back, thus if Milos defeats Karlovic, he would play the winner of Mahut and Chardy.

For those interested, Vasek is on court now and won his opening service game.
