Some people are making this into a sexual assault thing, when in fact it's just a kid being a goof in front of a camera. It has been done a million times before. Gender is irrelevant here (from my perspective and it looks like Polak's as well). I could pull up 100s or 1000s of videos on YouTube of people being jackasses in front of male reporters. You guys are putting this in the context of the FHRITP people, when that's not fair to the kid who was just being a dork.
The reporter should have just gone into the barrier area of the festival where all the sound/control equipment was if she didn't want to interact with the crowd. Not because she's a woman, but because she's standing in front of a camera and people like photo bombing/doing silly things.

You're just being laughed at now. REPORTERS in war zones need to wear vests, helmets, and big blue jackets that say JOURNALIST. Reporters with their feet anywhere on Canadian soil deserve and receive all the protection everyone else gets.

Sliver, I think the point was that on the face of the criminal code it meets all the requirements for sexual assault. It probably doesn't rise to the level where you'd be charged with it, and so for practical purposes it does not legally fall under that provision.
But even if you think it doesn't constitute sexual assault, you have to concede that it's at least ARGUABLY within that provision simply based on the words that are on the page. And it's generally a bad idea to put yourself in the position where you've ARGUABLY committed an indictable offense.

I never said it does. I'm just saying don't be surprised that you had small prank played on you while doing reporting from a festival.

She's far enough away. There is a camera there, probably with a CBC logo on it. You can see people walking in a V to avoid her.
Just saying that as a girl, things like this can be scary.

I see all the SJWs out in full force in this thread. There is a big difference between a journalist reporting in a war zone and a reporter doing a fluff piece at a music festival. I think the reactions of "this is sexual assault" are really stretching it. Good luck convicting someone of sexual assault for a peck on the cheek.

First, she was on the outskirts, not in the throng. Dumb argument, she's at least 30 feet back. As well, reporters go into war zones. They are supposed to be close. Very stupid argument.
Second, this is a problem because this has happened way too much. Guys taking liberties with women on camera. Often way WAY worse. If she doesn't report, she's saying all those other ones are ok.
I'm a free love guy. I wish we lived in a world where we could sneak a kiss, as passion for human kind. As a celebration of a good event. I wish it happened to guys as much as it happened to girls. I wish a peck was a peck, and if you didn't like it, you/d just brush it off.
But that's not the world we live in. Women get raped every day, and it starts with some guy not respecting boundaries. I want to believe this specific case was harmless. But even if it was, not reporting it is very harmful to women everywhere.

Clearly some people see this as a "man taking liberty with women" situation while others see this as a "Reporter being messed with" situation.
I guess how much weight you put into the peck on the cheek is what decided where you place yourself.

If there is one thing I have learnt from this thread is it isn't up to the recipient of unwanted attention to decide if it is scary or not.

I don't agree. I think there are sexual kisses, which could lead to this being fairly labeled a sexual assault. This wasn't a sexual kiss. It was a peck on the cheek. My mom used to call these 'bobecks" ffs. I can't believe in Canada anybody would be at risk for being labeled a sexual predator for giving somebody a bobeck.
It's like if you and I were hanging out and I gave you a little jab on the arm if you were busting my chops about something. That's not the same as my winding up and smashing you in the face as hard as I could. There are punches and there are punches. (fyi, I don't mean for that to sound threatening or anything; it's just a quick example I thought of while typing )

Stranger is different! I can't read intent in that situation. Like I said yesterday, if we were introduced and it was custom for you to lean in for a greeting kiss on the cheek, that's fine.

Geezus, are we still going around and around with this ridiculous 'point'?
This isn't your mom giving you a bobeck, and it isn't your buddy giving you a shot in the arm.
It's a stranger running up behind you and kissing you on the cheek (or punching you in the arm) and running away, all to get a laugh at your expense, and then put it on the internet for further yuks.
I don't think it's a sexual assault either, and neither does the victim obviously, but let's put to rest this "it's just like what me mum gave me when I was a wee lad" theory.

Are you joking around with me? It sounds like we have the exact same perspective on this. I agree she was wronged as well. I just don't think it's a sexual assault. I was replying to Corsi who thinks it was a sexual assault.

By definition it is sexual assault.
As I said in my first post, I'm not sure this specific case warrants this. However, based on recent culture and happenings, she is very justified in being scared/repulsed, and CBC is very justified in reporting on it as big news.
Moreover, if she doesn't, it is a big disservice to other reporters and other women. That's the most important part. She's in a tough spot.
