Default CBC reporter files complaint with RCMP over unwanted kiss

CBC reporter Megan Batchelor received unwanted attention from a man who kissed her on the cheek and took a selfie while she was doing a live hit for Vancouver's supper-hour television newscast.

The unwelcome physical contact happened at the Squamish Valley Music Festival on Friday evening during the 6 p.m. newscast.

"As much as I'm not physically hurt, I'm rattled," she said. "I was just doing my job when this happened and I feel like he deliberately tried to interfere with my ability to do my job just for a laugh."

Johnny Michel, CBC's senior managing director for British Columbia and Alberta, said the man's actions were inappropriate and should have never happened.

"The safety of our employees is paramount. This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable under any circumstance," Michel said.

I don't think it's right for anyone to invade another's personal space, but filing a complaint with the RCMP for a seemingly harmless peck on the cheek, seems over the top, IMO.

I was just about to post this in the gear grinding thread. I don't want to come off as being on the wrong side of the debate on this one. She absolutely has every right to do her job without things like that happening.

I guess my gear grinder was more just how big her and the CBC are trying to make this, especially the whole "Please help identify the culprit in the video" and proudly stating how a complaint has been filed.

It's definitely wrong, but the reaction and the whole having her in the studio to talk about how wrong it is and how it's affected her all seemed a little contrived and meant more to keep the story big because they see an opportunity for hits.

This is on par with that thread about the girl suing the airline because of the seat incident.

I understand how the women in both of them are offended...but it is just blown out of proportion.

Just move on with life, Jesus. If every small incident needed a breaking news story, there would be a 24/7 channel dedicated to crappy news stories and events....oh wait.

That one sideline reporter should have filed a complaint against Joe Namath.... he certainly scarred me for life; I'll never get that creepy slurred line out of my head.

To those saying "no big deal", I assume then that you wouldn't take issue with anyone sneaking up on your wife, girlfriend, mother or daughter and giving them a "harmless peck on the cheek"?

Won't somebody think of the girlfriends, mothers and daughters, and their boyfriends, kids and parents?

Shouldn't you? If someone gave this type of unwanted attention to my wife, I'd be less than happy.

Since it's no big deal, let me know where your wife and daughter work. I'll pay them a visit. You can explain that it is was fine with you.

This was immediate thought. FHRITP seems far worse and I guess I'm not a reporter so I wouldn't know, but that it so vulgar that it'd bother me and destroy the credibility of my newscast far worse than a peck on the cheek.

I hope it's taken seriously and I hope they charge him. There are a lot of people who wish they could achieve the same level of liability from their own abusers.

I agree with the complaint being filed. Things like this need to be identified as harassment and people educated to prevent it from happening. The problem will be the gross over reaction if he is identified. The punishment for this should probably be some sexual harassment awareness training and a little community service. Instead if identified he will be publicly shamed and possibly lose his job like the fhritp people.

An RCMP complaint is totally appropriate. It's not like the guy is getting charged with sexual assault here. If someone did that while I was in the middle of working I'd do the same.

I don't think it's an overreaction, it seems pretty proportional. I mean, it shouldn't be a news story (I don't care really - although I guess I am replying).

The guy probably thinks he is god's gift to women.

I don't blame her at all for being upset by it.

This will result in a guilty plea to assault (apply force without consent) and a discharge for the accused.

I think the complaint is more than warranted, id be upset too, but it's hardly a news story.
