The Richmond Olympic Oval is also a similar multisport park now.

I would like to say that "boots" is what soccer players use to refer to their cleats.
So both the socks and boots comments could be references to soccer.

It would be awesome if we some how got an MLS team to coincide with this announcement.

Same. I'm equating the comments to that mostly because I want it to happen.

Which election in what year? There's been two elections at different levels just since this thread was started.

The Flames were banking heavily on a Berlusconi re-election in order to get some of that sweet, sweet ill-gotten Italian cash!

Actually, the announcement is going to come within days after the free, fair, open, and democratic election…
…in North Korea.

For reference, a "fieldhouse" doesn't exclusively mean a large indoor field. The Collicutt Centre in Red Deer has the amenities that make up the traditional fieldhouse, just at a smaller scale.
Another good example of a fieldhouse in Canada is that of Carleton University in Ottawa. Spoiler for size:
Also the Manulife Sportsplex in Kitchener-Waterloo: http://www.waterloo.ca/en/gettingact...vingcentre.asp

Which one would be the little used stadium?
Both would be used every day in the summer.
Multi sport facilities are open and used by the public everyday and the training areas would be used year round by athletes.
The football field would be used for Stampeders practice and games.
So it wouldn't be beneficial to put a track around a football field because it would have to be closed during football practices, inconveniencing athletes and the public.
Also, the courts and such are usually in the centre of the track.

The football field would have 10 games a year spread over 5 months and two hour daytime practices make it little used. Having a full track around it that could be covered by movable seats for games would be a good idea. My daughter was a middle distance runner in the mid 90s and their was no decent indoor facilities in Calgary at the time. I doubt it's changed. Of course if they are going to build a full sized track in the fieldhouse that would be great but I was looking for a way to maximize the use of the stadium.

Olympic Oval? a 1500ft running track seems decent to me for winter running.

I personally hate running tracks around stadiums, however if there is a way to make visible only when stands are rolled back, that could be OK. Reduced capacity I guess, but I doubt track meets in Calgary would attract over 40k spectators anyway.

Put up enough of these arenas, stadiums, and field houses and every event could be a "Barn Burner"!
