I think they need to remove the tree and put one of these in its place.

The tree in that photo represents the timeline of how long the new arena announcement takes.

It began as a seedling in the first photo release.

The tree is actually a cleverly disguised cell tower to ensure there will be full LTE coverage inside the two buildings.

It will also have LED lights all over it that will change colour depending on which team is playing: It will be red for the Flames, and red for the Stamps, and red for the Roughnecks, and a pinkish red for the Hitmen.

But will they have the right shade of red for when the Canadian national team plays there??

Unfortunately, part of the 1% public art program.

Though I support the program, man they shoulda focused grouped that one.

Guess that's the problem with art though. Can't really go by popular vote.

I forget what the circle is supposed to 'symbolize'. Certainly just seems like a high school art student BSing to the teacher though.

'Oh yeah, the circle represents the unity of the people of Calgary, and it's blue because it's the waters of the Bow'.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what a Fieldhouse is.
It is much more than an indoor running track. It is training fascilities, rehab facilities, hard courts, fields and offices.

What are some field houses around the world?

Yeah, I understand that a fieldhouse is more than an indoor running track but combining the two for the little used stadium might be a good idea while the movable seats could cover up a full sized track when not needed.

I've heard from a very credible source that we should expect an announcement after the election.

Here is the one that the City of Edmonton and the Eskimos built just outside of Commonwealth Stadium:
http://www.edmonton.ca/activities_pa...amenities.aspx

And the concept for a new fieldhouse north of McMahon Stadium, which has been approved, but not funded by the city:
