Well that's a pretty important piece of information... obviously doesn't absolve him of any wrongdoing, but if he is in fact innocent, subway guy = child porn is all people will remember.

The other guy was arrested earlier in the year not at the time of this raid. Arrested early May or before. Doesn't answer much but still might be something up.

Wow, saw video of Jared walking out of his house on CNN. Looks like Subway has more than one reason to be cutting ties with him. Looks like he is packing the pounds back on again. That or he has been wearing spanx in his commercials.

Looks like it was Jared himself after all:
Text reveals Subway’s Jared paid 16-year-old for sex.

Fogle told her he thought “middle school girls are hot.’’

Well apparently, 16 is the age of consent in his state (as it is in Alberta, barring positions of power IE teachers, police officers, etc.) so he'll probably be charged for soliciting since there was money involved, not pedophile charges.
Though it does make you wonder if there is more than that going on. A lot of smoke between this and his relationship with the other guy obviously.
Middle school girls are hot... ewwwww... (shudder)

Has it really been that long? 15 years. Wow and $15 million he got out of it. Unfortunately it sounds like the guy is pretty messed up. Why can't they at least go after 18 year olds if they want young girls?

Wait what, 16 is the age of consent in some states? Had no idea, that seems horribly wrong at least for actual adult men and not 18/19 year olds.
What an absolute PR disaster for Subway although I have to say, this story not getting quite the play I would have expected. Subway says thanks Bill Cosby.

Well I personally disagree with anyone over 21 having a relationship with a 16 year old, I don't necessarily think it should be punished as a criminal offense. When you consider rock stars like Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers married a 18 year old when he was 49, and Marilyn Manson has had relationships with woman more than 1/2 his age, how bad can it be, as long as they are two consenting adults?
Not saying it's right, but it should not be a criminal offense, if the two people are in a loving, consensual relationship. However, if you pay for sex with a 16 year old girl, that's another story.

I hear you but hard for me to believe a 40 year old and a 16 year old can be in a true loving, consensual relationship.
Agree that soliciting a 16 year old is far worse.

Yeah, some of the really extreme cases creep me out personally, but I realize other people might be different. The rule we have in Alberta makes sense, as many teenagers are sexually active. I like that there is a provision for 'positions of power'. It makes sure adults who do have sway over teenagers and could take advantage of it don't do that.
But if your 16 and you want to, have at er I guess. I think we understand as adults that people that age don't make the best decisions, and often decisions of sex come from places of hurt or depression or other problems, but you can't blanket a law that takes away freedoms just because some people aren't smart about it. At least not one about something like this. It's their own body and own life. (Guns maybe are different. )
Personally, I do find many cases like that creepy though. Every once in a while you hear a case that worked out. I knew a woman who married a guy over twice her age at 15. This was back when the laws were even less strict anyway. They have one of the successful marriages I know. And it's not because he 'groomed' her or is controlling. They're very happy and are nice people. Love is weird. That's why it's so hard to make laws around it.
Also, many other countries this type of behavior is pretty normal (I don't mean paying for sex or preying on teenagers, just the age argument). Not saying we're right and they're wrong. Or they're right and we're wrong. Just that a lot of it is perspective.

Judges need to have the power to decide based on each case's merit, no minimum standards laws because these are so often nuanced.

Take your age, divide by two and add seven. That's the minimum age you should date. Works for teenagers and beyond.

I'm 53, A 33 year old chick seems like a great idea, but what if my daughter is that age? you think she thinks that "works"?
