You'll get them when 18000 people a night come watch you ply your trade.
Have you been to the annual World of Concrete show in Las Vegas? The brick laying competition and the block laying competition have huge prizes, and huge crowds. Brick laying is boring, but the block competition is sick.
Believe first place is a brand new fully loaded 3/4 ton truck, $150k cash, and $100k worth of masonry tools.

Yeah, in my youth I did this for a living a few times. It drove me to taking strong drugs. Well actually I was doing the drugs before this but why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I guess you've never had a contract with a no-compete clause in it then. When you get to certain levels or work in certain industries this clause can be put in a contract to prevent you from up and leaving with short notice. This is very restrictive and more like a pro athlete has to deal with, so there are instances of similar restrictions for regular folk.
It's not at all what a pro athlete has to deal with. Non-compete clauses must be limited within a reasonable geographical area and within a reasonable amount of time. To say that an NHL player can't play for any of the top 30 businesses in the hockey industry in the world for 1-7 years would absolutely not be considered to be reasonable in any other industry.

We live in Alberta where non-compete clauses are barely worth the paper they are written on. Talk to an employment lawyer.
I was told "one sided" employment contracts/amendments to them are unenforceable.. I'd imagine that to say you couldn't work in your designated field for X years and earn your sweet O&G salary during that time, there would have to be something pretty worthwhile coming back the other way (hefty compensation?) to be bulletproof.
Maybe that's all BS though.

I hope they file a grievance. Screw the Kings, they made their bed by taking on those hella long contracts now they should lay in it. More cap trouble for the Kings means a better time of it for the Flames.

I dont know, the Union could be being thorough and are using their time to compile a a grievance or reaction or waiting for more official information to arrive, but that deadline is coming up fast.
You want to hear something from your union, even if its just 'we're working on it.'
Complete silence is a bit ominous.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

And Richards made his bed by (allegedly) trying to illegally import Oxy into Canada.
The Kings do not occupy any moral high ground, but neither does Richards.
Has there been any update on this from the NHLPA side in the past month? Because nothing has changed, as far as I can see: they simply cannot, cannot allow this to happen.

Also, didn't our resident cyborg sureLoss reveal that the kings will be on the hook for the cap penalty if they terminate the contract?
Something something buyout is actually less of a cap hit than terminating?
Something?
Beuller?
Yes, because it was front-loaded, there will be a cap penalty of $1.32 million per season for the next 5 seasons.
If they had bought him out, the cap hit for 2015-16 would actually have been less than $1.32 million, but the cap hit for the rest of the buyout period would be higher, and it would also go for 10 more seasons.
Also, by terminating the contract, the Kings don't have to pay him anything more, they just have less cap space. With a buyout, they'd be paying him a little under $15 million over the next decade.

In a way, I feel sorry for Richards. He was a helluva all-around player on the Flyers and for a while with the Kings. He was young when he started making his millions and didn't have the tools to control his lifestyle. Now he's without a contract, uneducated, and has problems with drugs.
