Do you have a reason to think he's stupid? He's no longer walking on egg shells, I think he'll do just fine.

Credit to Sven's agent. Dude hasn't proven he can play at the NHL level and still gets a 1 way deal. They are really backing themselves into a corner with the guy and sending the message that exactly opposite of what he needs.

Most of the things he's said in the media lead me to believe he's not very intelligent.

I don't get the animosity towards Sven. He clearly didn't have a chance to make the team here. He had been passed by numerous other prospects so he orchestrated a trade to get a better shot at the NHL.
Whether you take his side that the flames didn't play to his strengths and tried to change him or the flames side that Sven wouldn't adapt his game to the NHL doesn't matter. Sven was not making the flames, his agent quietly got him traded for good value.
I hope Sven is just sucessful enough to block other prospects on the cannucks from getting opportunities.

Even before the trade. He was pouty with his "I am better than the other guys called up, I don't know what else I can do" routine.
I know some people tried to use the language barrier as an excuse, but the way events unfolded, I think it's clear that he was the problem.

I don't think he lacks intelligence, its a compass. He's lost his way. I think things came pretty easy for him (guessing) from his mid teens to his early 20s. Star in Switzerland, star in the WHL, amazing start to his NHL career.
But when he finally hit that wall he chose to blame others and not look inward.
Narcissist.
He'll either grow up and get it, or keep spiralling downward (KHL-ward)

I never once said he shouldn't have been traded, that he was ahead of anyone, or that I wasn't overjoyed with the return. What you've typed has absolutely nothing to do with what I posted. He still has confidence. Whether other people have confidence in him has nothing to do with what you or I posted.

A one year deal means if the situation in Vancouver doesn't work he is able to go to 28 other teams. You said this might be his last chance. He'd have to suck something awful for him to never get another chance. Some take longer to develop. Heck, Steve McCarthy got a chance a couple years ago after being out of the league a few years. He didn't make it, but it shows this likely won't be his last chance.

IIRC it wasn't all that quiet. Sven in media, Sven's agent in media, Sven's dad in media, Sven in media after trade throwing shade at the Flames. Hence the animosity.

We seem to be on different wave lengths. The confidence I was referring to in my orginial post is with his play on the ice. He may think he has the confidence and talent to play at the NHL level but so far he hasn't shown it. That is why he was passed by so Flames prospects.

How many other teams would be willing to give him a one way contract if it doesn't work out in Vancouver? Better yet, will his ego (I know better than the Flames mgmt) and pride allow him to accept a 2 way deal in the future? My guess is he'll go back to Europe if things don't work out.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but why do you know better than Flames mgmnt? Do you know him? Honest question.

I was referring to his attitude towards Flames mgmt and how he felt he was treated. Blaming someone else for his problems.

Do you honestly think that last paragraph is him "saying the right things"?
"But when you get told over and over you're not good enough defensively, then at some point you become not good defensively ANYMORE."
I capitalize "anymore" because I think it's hilarious that he's essentially insinuating that he WAS good defensively and the Calgary Flames ruined him. No accountability at all with this guy.
"Players got called up and it's shoved right in front of your face."
Seriously, WTF is this guy's problem? What else is there to say, the quotes sum him up pretty well. It's everyone else's fault, anyone but poor little Svenny. He just needs someone to tell him that he's special and never, ever criticize him. Now that he has that, he finally has the chance to "restart after all those tough times".
Good grief.
