Pretty widely rumoured and reported that there were chemistry/locker room issues. Nothing to do with race on my end. I hate the way those guys play and carry themselves.

You'll forgive me if I remain somewhat disturbed by assertations that replacing a group of players that consists of 75% Latino's with 2 white guys and a biracial Canadian represents a cultural "upgrade".
Doubly so when you could easily defend the moves just on talent merit alone.

Lol.
Culture = team chemistry/locker room/etc
Culture =/= cultural background.
Really grasping at the PC straws.

"The Jays did offer lefty Daniel Norris, No. 1 pick Jeff Hoffman and outfielder Dalton Pompey in talks with the Cleveland Indians for right-hander Carlos Carrasco."
That seems like a HUGE price.
Very happy that didn't go through. That's a mortgage the future for a 2-3 guy going forward.
Also, I wouldn't put Bautista in the same group as Lawrie, Reyes and EE in terms of what he brings to a ball club. I hope that's a little less white, for those keeping score. Martin isn't 100% white either, so things are evening out.

Bautista's right, so no blame or anything to look into there. He's simply not a guy who toots the company horn at every moment. I'm a bit late to the party in all this as I just heard about the deal this morning, but I'm ecstatic. I know there's some trepidation about giving up prospects, but to me there are so many baseball prospects at a young age who fizzle out, that it's virtually impossible to not make a deal like this if available. Unless there's a virtual certainty with a generational prospect that comes around every now and then (like Harper), I'd do the deal 10 out of 10 times. These new draft picks are simply too young and numbers wise, most will do nothing with their career, so I don't mind losing Hoffman. Losing Castro hurts a little, but I have no problem getting the best SS in the game, especially that he's locked up for the longer term.
The idea of addressing pitching isn't lost on the Jays management (how can it)? Pitching is probably just at a premium so AA decided to shore up SS when it became possible. Personally I don't believe in anything bad rumored about Reyes. He seems like a nice guy. You don't always have to look intense to have an inner drive - he's simply been hampered by injuries.
As for next steps, if it came down to EE or JB, I'd personally deal both for 1st starters, but if only one could be dealt I'd actually vote JB simply because injuries are starting to pile up on him. For the playoff run I'd much rather have him though, but if it were for future building I could see his career really going off path fast from injuries.

I've often said that people who go looking for racism need only look in a mirror to find what they seek.
Bautista, Reyes and Lawrie were pretty close chums, and Baustista especially dominates the clubhouse. If, at this time last year, you felt you had cultural issues in your locker room, those three are your targets, no matter what their race.
So do all these right handed bats in the Jays lineup hit right handers well enough? You're realistically looking at going 8 of 9 guys hitting from the right hand side unless Michael Saunders ever plays a game, and even then, that's considering Smoak or Navarro, as being in the lineup and neither one is really a full time guy and both switch hitters.

This culture in the clubhouse thing is way overblown. You got guys of different walks of life there will always be guys who don't agree. The only thing you don't want is jerkoffs and guys who don't put in the time honing their craft. Having some attitude isn't bad, in as much as having no attitude isn't bad. It's the results you put up. Lind, Rasmus, Lawrie and those guys just weren't putting up the numbers. Further, Lind and Lawrie had attitude which just rubbed people the wrong way. Bautista has attitude but he does still produce, so I have little problem with it. The unfortunate thing is the arguing with Umps everytime.
