Yes it's a hockey forum. Ehlers is a top prospect of a professional hockey team. I fail to see the problem.
How is it news to you that people hype up prospects before they play in the NHL?

Another problem Winnipeg faces in their attempt to become contenders is the internal budget. The Jets seem to prefer trading guys to paying them. Tough to be competitive if you can't afford the stars.

It isnt. Its just foolish.
I made the statement that the Jets need a game-breaker to take them over the top. I was presented the picture of a kid who has never set foot on NHL ice.
But apparently hes the game-breaker that going to take them over the top. Yeah, that statement isnt ridiculous.

Yeah, I think that will be their biggest problem. The Oilers probably won't find it easy either, but if McDavid has an instant impact as expected, then I think they stand a chance in the next few seasons. Unfortunately, he is their prisoner for the next 7 years.

What's ridiculous about having high expectations for a top prospect? Everyone does it. Flames fans did it a year ago with Gaudreau and Bennett.
Obviously it's not a sure thing, but Ehlers looks to be trending towards being a top offensive player.

The Jets are making money like crazy and TNSE has stated on record many times they'll spend to cap if they feel it's the right hockey move

Then they're either lying or need to turf Chevy.

They must never think it's the right move I guess.

Well, spending to the cap for the sake of cap spending isn't how to win. Ask Edmonton

They have the richest owner in the NHL don't they? Do they really have an internal budget?

My relatives back home in Manitoba who are Jets fans laugh at the prediction The Hockey News made that they would win the Cup in 2019 for this reason. They say they're too cheap to go to the next level.

True.
But not spending to the cap makes winning even harder than it already is.

Why do we have to act butthurt with every Canadian team in the league? We turn on our own and meanwhile the US teams just laugh and continue to win the cup every year. It doesn't make any sense.

That's spending for the sake of spending. TNSE will have to open up the cheque book for a lot of young players over the next few seasons. Why tie your hands behind your back now with that?
This can only be judged over the next few years. If TNSE cheap out, I'll admit I was wrong

Because most of the other Canadian based teams in the league are in cities that are no good.
It's also funny to think that some kind of Canadian solidarity would suddenly result in Canadian based teams winning the Cup left and right. Or that US based teams are successful because they sit back and let Canadian fans snipe at each other.

Do you think fans are impacting results?
And who is butthurt?

Ummm, no. The Flames fans, if anything, under-expected vis-a-vis Gaudreau and debated whether Bennett should even play this year after his injury. Plus Bennett was a number 3 OAP who could have easily been a number 1.
A better comparable for some having high expectations for a mid-range pick like Ehlers is probably Sven.

Their track record to date disagrees with you.
We'll see if they change going forward.

My reasons for not liking the Jets are "whiteout", fawning press accounts of their fans, goonish play by B-fugly, the weird historical stats problems taking the Jets name causes, and the expectation they have that other Canadians have to root for them.
I do not think the US teams "laugh" at Canadians "turning on" other Canadian teams any more than we laugh at the Avs/Wings rivalry, the NYR/NYI rivalry, etc.
And how does it help US teams "win cups every year"?
