Happy to see the Flames avoided Semin. No way he would have bought in with Hartley's system and the Flames had way too many forwards as it is.

The guy can put up points, there is no doubt. On a 1x1 I would not have been upset to get him on the Flames. And Hartley would have no problem putting him in the dog house if he didn't buy in (see: Wideman, Dennis).

Potential to flip him.

How is this high risk? If he sucks they launch him into the sun (or they could place him on waivers, I guess). And if that happens they probably just terminate his contract and he goes to Russia.

Fantastic deal for the Habs. Surprised other teams weren't that interested if he was willing to sign a one year deal.

Montreal found a way to fit Kovalev into their lineup and make it work (sort of).

Semin to me is a very similar player.

I would rather have Semin. Jooris is a redundant player with the Flames. There's nothing he does they Byron, Bouma, Shore, etc can't do just as good or better and Semin could put up decent numbers in the Flames top 6.

Montreal has an unusually high number of beatnik bars. I hear Semin has got himself a regular gig playing bongos

First, don't ever do that to your font again.
Second, what?

he's referring to the time Semin faught Staal from the rangers and it looked like he was playing the bongos instead of fighting.

Probably will get hated for this but I would have rather we signed Semin and Stewart and their one year deals than Frolik at his 5 year deal. Hopefully Frolik proves me wrong.

Frolik is a much more versatile player than Semin or Stewart who are one trick ponies. Frolik can slide up and down the top three lines as needed and contribute to both the PK and PP. Stewart and Semin are either scoring or they aren't contributing and neither of them has been doing much scoring of late.

Interesting thing to watch this season, who gets more goals? Parenteau or Semin?

and scoring isn't really a problem as we were 8th last season and with our young players and additions we could easily improve on that.

For a second I was like is he right? Then thought about it and was like definitely no. I'm still not sure how Frolik will pan out but I know Semin and Stewart are definitely not the answer. Frolik's versatility combined with the scouting work we put in on him makes me confident that it should work out.

I bet he has a great year in Montreal and they throw a Petry sized contract at him. Then we sit back and watch it all come crumbling down.

Great deal for the Habs. Don't really understand why Semin would want to go to Montreal though. Therrien doesn't seem to like players of his style, so I could see Semin in the doghouse pretty fast.

Great signing imo. No risk for the Habs. The guy has a lot to prove. He might score 30+ goals.

A lot better than that horrific Jeff Petry deal.

Not me. Frolik is known as a team guy and someone who plays hard. How can you go with the mantra "always earned, never given" and have floaters like Semin and Stewart? Frolik seems like the type to buy into what the Flames are trying to preach. Semin and Stewart do not.
