I think it's a good deal.
Signed for 3 years (good)
Ate a year of UFA (good)
Reasonable AAV for the player (good)
Think of it this way: $2M this year, $2.1M next year, and $2,5M in his first UFA year.

Boy, where does that cap go?

Lance Bouma settles at 3 years @ $2.2M cap hit. Flames have estimated $4.069M cap space remaining.

I saw the numbers and thought great value to get a year of his UFA. He probably will get hurt given his style. You are paying for 60 games a year...prorated its a ~$3m type number. I think for a guy who's career isn't going to be that long playing this way, that is a decent number for what he leaves on the ice. And not too many years that would allow him to sit back, get comfy and not play his style that got him there.

Since Lance made the NHL full time he has played two seasons. In both of those seasons he has played 78 games. I don't see how the flames are paying for 60 games a year?

Good term and AAV.
I believed strongly that the arbitrator would decide in Bouma's favour (voted 2.4M in the poll), so glad to see a 3yr @ 2.2 AAV.

Worth spending the extra 300k, His agent is a nightmare to deal with and now they can start talks with Gio who has the same agent.

AAV is a touch too high (I wanted sub $2.0) and term is a year too long for my liking. Too much and too long in my book.

Bouma is a warrior and the kind of player you want in the playoffs. I think the AAV is totally fine

First move of the offseason I don't like.
Bouma is a good role player but one blip year and we sign him for more than he's worth and for 3 years?
Overall though, it's only 2 million dollars. Even if he never plays a game again, that won't have much of an impact what so ever.

I believe in the Jays.
|
It's about 300K more then I'd have wanted on a 3 year deal. The arbitration must have gone pretty badly for the Flames since they surrendered the security of the 1 year deal and still gave him pretty close to what his arbitration ask was.
IMO the first miss by Treliving this offseason.

Really? Great. Thanks for pulling up his games played number.
I get historicals. So you don't think being a leader in blocked shots and hits increases the probability of him getting hurt in the future?

The term is perfect, we are buying a UFA year here. If the term is 2 years then there's a good chance he walks at the end of year 2.

I do believe they could have gotten him a couple hundred grand cheaper if they'd settled prior to the hearing. I'm guessing Bouma's case for 2.5M was a lot stronger than the Flames case for 1.5M.

Nope, I agree with you that there's a chance that could happen. He's hasn't played sub 60 games in a season yet though so you can bet that his agent brought that up during contract discussions.
I don't think it's right to say you're paying for 60 games a year when this hasn't been the case at all yet

Jones might fetch a pick at the deadline. Smid will either be a Flame or stay on LTIR forever. The other 2 we're not getting rid of.

Unless Gio/Hudler/Hiller/Ramo all walk, 2016 is building up to be a nightmare offseason.
And if they walk, we lose four huge reasons we were good last year.
