Sieloff. Based clearly on previous hype machines and this years interviews. He needs a huge step forward this year.

I know we are talking about prospects here, but I have a strong hunch that you will be eating your words in due time.

Great comparison. Jooris had that same drive in the AHL that brought him to the bigs. Sometimes you don't have to score a hundred goals or be 18. You just need to be reliable and mistake free defensively.

Jooris was a surprise but he's still a guy that isn't guaranteed a spot in the starting line-up next season.

Um, Jooris is guaranteed a spot unless he shows up to camp and just half-asses it, which he won't.

correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Sieloff basically make the Flames NHL roster out of camp as a 19 year old in the fall of 2013 and he suffered a fractured cheekbone during a fight. In his recovery he got fluke ingrown hair staph infection where he had no physical exertion for 2 months and was off skates for basically a whole year.
Last July he was given a Blue Jersey (no-contact) at the Flames development camp.
Missing a full year of training and development had to be a huge set-back...
He was able to play in 42 AHL games last season, at what I would assume was less than his peak physical condition.
Given the full off season where he stayed in Calgary all summer to train with the Flames strength and conditioning coach Ryan van Asten will be a major help to his progress as a pro.
If he comes back to the point where his world fell apart in 2013 he is liable to be this year's Josh Jooris.

Kulak is the Max Reinhart of Culkin/Kulak. He is going to run out of development time and be moved for a pick to make room for other defensive prospects.

No, but did anyone? There's a reason no one saw Jooris doing what he did. It rarely happens.

The fact that it happened, means this team is welcoming of the possibility. Treliving's interview:
He says he's right in the mix for a roster spot.

I don't remember Sieloff being anywhere close to making the big team. Maybe I'm wrong? Seems like a long shot though

There is a lot of competition for a bottom six spot.
Gauranteed NHL spots(7): Hudler, Frolik, Bennett, Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Bouma
Established NHL players battling for the remaining five spots (6): Stajan, Jones, Raymond, Bollig, Colborne, Byron
Other players battling for a NHL roster spot(4): Shore, Granlund, Ferland, Poirier
Could add more players to the list but those are the realistic contenders. Jooris needs to contend with 10 other players for the remaining 5 spots in the starting line-up.

I feel real bad for the guy, but I think Sieloff has fallen too far behind. Too bad, because his style of play is exactly what the Flames need on their blueline.

Sieloff is Negrin 2.0, he really needs to have a strong season if he wants to reach the NHL.

Not on teams with set-lineups like the Flames were in the Iginla era. Then barring injuries we had the line-up and almost the lines were set at the start of training camp.
On this team there is 2 spots open 7/8 d-men with 2 of Morrison Wotherspoon Culkin or just maybe Sieloff or a yet to be signed journeyman.
Sieloff was way ahead of Wotherspoon in 2013 and right now it would seem that Wotherspoon is penciled in for one of the spots.
Jooris had to beat out Setogouchi, Granlund, Rienhart, McGratton and Knight for the 3 wide open forward spots.
Gaudreau took 1 spot and Granlund and Jooris (low on prospect list) took the other 2.

Guys who took a year off and still made good.
Tkachuk - missed his draft season- played 6 games
Sealanne missed most of the second year after he was drafted . His broken leg was set wrong and he had to have it fixed by the Canadian Medical system in Winnipeg. He played a full season in Finland after being fixed before coming to the NHL. That was why he came over as a 22 year old RFA in 1992 after being drafted in 1988. Sieloff is still younger than Selanne was as a rookie
Gord Roberts missed a season with his neck injury and it took him a couple of years to get back 23-29 goal seasons.

Voted Carroll for the 3rd time
I'll save my campaign for next round as this looks to be locked up.

No, I believe the decision was whether or not he was ready for the AHL at 19. The issue with Seiloff is that he was already physically ready to make the jump. He just needed playing time to round out his game. Of all our prospects, Seiloff was probably tops in terms of just needing to get pro games under his belt. The injury really messed that up for him and put his development to a halt.

Seiloff may fall greatly in the ranks but consistency or the lack thereof from his draft year to today has really been the setback.
I am eager to watch his progress this year and pray he can stay healthy.
