Seems to me the number crunchers at COG have determined they would be better off without the Coyotes (and some other arena manager and tenant(s)). They are losing $8 M per year right now.

They feel they are better off without the Coyotes and a $15 million payment, certainly. But there is zero question they want the team to stay - only at the point where they make money on the deal.

The majority of vendors at Westgate are going to have their own lawsuits as well. There have been a ton of restaurants/shops opening up there because of the 15 year deal between Glendale and the Coyotes.
That will kill those places if the team leaves Glendale..

I'm too far away too tell if that is a fact. Is no one going to Westgate from April to October, when there are no Coyote games?
Would not replacement tenant(s) and more non-hockey events bring traffic? Isn't there a new mall nearby, and casino coming soon?
I think the "Save Glendale" people should be honest about their real motivations. They just want hockey. Understandable.

Glendale is fighting the casino (Stupid)
and Tanger outlets is busy but it's separate from Westgate. I've gone to Westgate on non-game nights when I lived in the West valley and it was dead during those months.
What replacement tenant would there be exactly? The Arizona Rattlers arena football team was close to moving but they didn't want to leave downtown.

George Fallar in trouble with the IRS?
Hockey charity broke the law, IRS told
http://www.glendalestar.com/news/art...577c7a94f.html
A couple associated with a charity that promotes hockey for kids, as well as a political committee sponsoring a local recall effort, has been accused of profiting off donations to that nonprofit and using its tax-exempt funds for political purposes.

Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
The Glendale City Council will hold a special voting meeting tomorrow on a potential settlement with the Coyotes.
Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
If Council approves amendments, city & team will reach settlement that will keep Coyotes at Gila River Arena for at least next 2 seasons.
Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
Per terms of deal, Coyotes would collect all hockey-related revenue that previously went to COG (naming rights, tix surcharges, parking rev)
Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
City would pay $6.5M a year to Coyotes to manage arena. Out-clause that was part of the original 15-year, $225M agreement would be removed.

Glendale gets a set arena management fee for the next two years while the Coyotes keep the option of moving in two years. Everybody's kind of happy except the fans.

Still need the misfit council to vote? 4-3 and we're back around the circle again.

Well Craig Tindal seems to be out of a job too. City council really wanted his hide.
Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
#Coyotes settlement w Glendale incl Craig Tindal, former Glendale employee who then worked for IceArizona, will have no further ties to team

If both sides are announcing it, it is likely they know the vote outcome already.
The real problem is that this agreement is for 2 years only, so we might be back to square 1 in 2017.

Nothing too surprising here. COG played this expertly. IA looks bad.

Even if Glendale approves ordinance, city can still end IceArizona's arena mgmt deal with 90 days notice.

It must be difficult to build a loyal fan base under these conditions. Why anyone would emotionally invest themselves in the Coyotes at this point is beyond me.

Seems to be the same story on repeat. "Drama postponed for 2 years, stay tuned for 'will they move or won't they volume 7!'"
