Trumpelstiltskin only runs every 4 years because it makes him loads of profit every time. That's it. It's a business decision and he really doesn't care what everyone else thinks of him because it's an effortless way to buy another island. The more ridiculous he is the more you talk about him the more he's around to talk ridiculous the more time you spend the more he opens his fly hole, etc.

The Economis wrote an interesting opinion piece stating that Trump could do well attracting the xenophobic votes in the Republican primary. Which also opens a door to another Republican to clarify their anti-xenophobia as a differentiator.

The problem is, there are no meaningful consequences for him, as far as I can see. Anybody else saying those same things would have been ostracized a lot more than Trump has been. It's remarkable, really. I can't imagine what he would have to say to get into serious trouble.

I kind of want to see him win
I'm also a cynical ####### who question if our species' downward spiral is already out of control.

Trump's a fool, but he's tapped in on a lot of frustrations by different groups. While he came out looking like a jerk with McCain, I can't say he's wrong about McCain's efforts for Veterans while McCain has been in government.
While he's a complete fool in terms of the immigration thing, he's tapping into the fears and the frustrations of a lot of voters.
I think his bluster and off the cuff remarks are completely designed to appeal to people who want a loud outspoken person who reflects what people say when they're asked the question after a few beers "What would you do if you were President"
I don't think that this will carry him to a presidency let alone the Republican nomination, as the party has already really turned on him and he's given his opponents a lot of ammo.
His goal is to get on the stage during the debate and self promote, and he's going to get on the stage for that debate.
It could be interesting, and I feel sorry for the Moderator.

It was interesting I was watching CNN this morning while I was brushing my teeth, and they had a retired General talking about this, and his concern was that the American Allies around the world are sitting there talking about the fact that America isn't generating strong leadership anymore and its not likely to change in the future as neither the republican or democratic party are bringing forth what is perceived as good leaders, and haven't for a while.

Agreed.
It is somewhat refreshing to see a candidate who says what he wants to say, and not what he thinks that you want to hear.
But as to why Trump is surging, consider this writer's thoughts:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...d-trump-is-su/
Quote:
First and most importantly, he unabashedly champions America — and Americans.
***
Second, he is unapologetic.
***
Third, he fights back.
***
Fourth, he is the anti-politician.
***
Lastly, he is anti-establishment. Many conservative voters feel utterly betrayed by a Republican establishment that has relentlessly marginalized them, their candidates and their beliefs.

He says it all the time -- if you don't have lots of money, you are a loser.
With champions like that, who needs friends?

Part of me thinks Trump was brought in so that the "legit" candidates don't look so bad by comparison.

What presidential candidate isn't in it for their own personal gain?

I don't know that's lost money and a huge amount, and admittedly Trump has raised a ton of money for this campaign, but its kind of fraudulent if he raised it just to throw it.

Unfortunately that's a fair point.
The suggestion/article was that he's some sort of anti-establishment champion for America, which he plainly is not. He's a vulgar real estate tycoon with open contempt for the average person.

Conservatives hate him, liberals hate him; yet he has supporters.
Who is actually supporting him? The rich? The poor? Truly interesting.

It's why I have a tough time getting behind any politicians as whether it's Trump, Trudeau, Redford, etc they all really have contempt for the average person. The entire flaw with Western Politics is that we have people making decisions for the masses despite never having walked in those shoes as they simply can't associate with the working class. It's all about personal gain and control for these people.

I find that a bit of a stretch. I really couldn't see the average NDP supporter (or even protest voter) being all
"Man this government sucks and so do all the candidates. You know who is a breath of fresh air? This guy who truly believes all Mexicans are rapists."

You make a good argument for why people should support Bernie Sanders.
