How long until Kiprusoff's jersey is retired?

I'll admit to maybe going a little overboard in my defense of Fleury that was called out, but to sum up Fleury's career as a bit player on our Stanley Cup winning team is incredibly disingenuous.

Absolutely dominate in skill and singlehandedly put fans in the seats for years. He was one of the best players in the entire league during a large era of time that you completely omitted in your dismissal of his accomplishments.

In fact you literally only gave him credit for his rookie season in the NHL AND used it against him, calling him a bit player.

Yeah there was absolutely nothing dominating about Fleury in his prime. Clueless. And it always seems to be the older posters that have it out for Fleury and hammer him every chance they get like he was a rival star player or something.

Anyone that thinks that Theo shouldn't have his number retired never saw him play. The only thing that I can't forgive Sutter for is that he wouldn't allow Fleury to play on the fourth line during his comeback attempt/swan song.

Treliving has about as much input into retiring numbers as he does regarding the price of hot dogs at the dome.

Working out the logistics to give roster players jersey numbers is nothing like determining how a franchise chooses to recognize their history.

Perhaps sitting around the board room with King, Burke and the ownership, he may share his opinion but I suspect this one will live with Ken King.

Forever a Flame is a great program, I don't know why people think it's stupid. It honors past members who have had great careers in Calgary, so what is wrong with that?

Iggy & Kipper had exceptional and outstanding careers. Their number should be retired.

As one of the "older" posters on this forum I did marvel at what Fleury did in a Fames uniform. However any good will he had with me as a fan disappeared when he trashed the Flames organization after his failed tryout. Maybe if he had set aside his "all about me" ego he might have thanked Sutter and the Flames for giving him that opportunity.

Maybe its because we remember the trade where he got teary eyed in the morning for the Flames then turned around and talked smack about the team in the afternoon at the press conference in Colorado.

I saw him play a ton and yet I don't think they should retire the number - at least until he goes a few years without saying something stupid.
And he didn't deserve to get a spot on that team. He was too slow. Spots aren't handed out for emotional reasons or to placate the fans.
He wasn't good enough, despite his "historical" (his words not mine) pre-season shootout goal.

This retiring of numbers thing is just getting silly.There are a handful of legends league wide that merit it,but as more and more numbers are retired,the more meaningless it becomes.Sorry Kipper and Iggy fans, but I don't think I'm the only one out there that thinks that at least winning the Stanley Cup for your team should be one of the prerequisites for number retirement...

I would prefer they unretire #9 & #30 and just have everyone honored as apart of "Forever a Flame". IMO there is no better way to honour a player than wear their number.

I've said it before, but 12 and 14 are already retired. Doesn't matter what you call the ceremony when a banner is actually raised to the rafters, but nobody will ever wear either number again.

The complaints about the "Forever a Flame" thing vs. "retirement" is nothing more than arguing semantics.

The only thing that bugs me about all this is that I wish they would convert Lanny and Vernon's banners to match.
