Clayton Stoner wasn't on the orginal list. I will assume he will be in batch 2?

2 / 3 isn't bad.
Adding Ward and Chara to the fold helps our asset base significantly.
Paid a steep price but Chara is still a top 2 dman. It's a 2 year deal, so the risk here is he declines massively this year and then next year his rating sucks. But I don't think it will too much.
Ward I overpaid based on his rating but he is still #1 tender for Carolina and I'm hoping his rating increases for next year.
it also mitigates my risk of Hammond in Ottawa.

Pretty happy with these 2 value signings. Mitchell fills out my D giving me a highly defensive vet and Chimera fills out my top 9 and gives me more experience and a PK specific player.
Also really happy to see some insane 9+ mill contracts put there. Will really put a dent in the available cap for the next batch.

Colorado probably the winners in this batch. Some big time overpayments that pretty much guarantee some of these guys will be in the ahl next summer! If our bid for Jonas comes through then glad to add a serviceable backup at a recent price.

Wow. Lots of money spent here. Congrats to the winners.
And to think that last year, with 22 players available in batch 1, the most money spent was 3 years @ $7.51 on the amazing Stephan Robidas. Glencross came in 2nd with $7.25

Yes and no. I can say that for the players who received big contracts there were multiple offers in those ranges. So if that is what the market is willing to pay, based on cap available, is it overpayment.
The Kunitz deal probably surprises some, but I wanted to add a top 3 forward - and there were two. I didn't want Riberio so that left Kunitz. I figured I would need to offer 8.5 or higher - and once I was in that range I just figured offer the max on a 3 year deal and make sure I get him. I can buy him out from the AHL next season based on his AHL% and take only a relatively minor cap hit.
In the meantime adding him allows me to improve 3 lines - he steps on the 2nd which lets me bump Strome to the 3rd and Ansimov to the 4th. So it is one player that improves 3 slots for me. Worth the cash.
I actually think the Isles did a real good job here. They are short on assets and Simmer stepped up and added a #1 dman and #1 goalie. They are not long term solutions but good assets for his team to add.
I like what SJ did as well adding 3 players - including Tyutin who I really wanted to take a run at but didn't bother after I had settled on my Kuntiz strategy.
Batch 2 should be up later today. It isn't very good.

Habs disappointed they lost out on Kunitz, but happy with the addition of Lovejoy and Thompson.
Lovejoy will round out our top 4 and thompson will most likely be our 3rd line center and top pk guy. He is physical and had a beast of a playoffs last year in the sim.
Looking forward to batch 2 and hopefully trading will pick up.

Francois Beauchemin must be crowned the biggest money winner of this day.
From being on waivers less than three months ago to signing a 3 year deal worth $8.25

All UFA contracts should be 1-way. Teams are already talkeing bout buying players out next year? There's really no repercussions at all for teams throwing ridicolous money at some of these guys.

There is a cost to doing that though, even if bought out from the AHL.
There rules are made so that if you re-sign a UFA it is 1 way, but in open free agency they aren't - so that is one of the clear distinctions between the two.
I did wonder though, as I processed these deals, if we should re-order the criteria for who wins. Right now it goes $$, term, AHL%. I wonder if we should go $$, AHL%, term.
Something to consider for next season.
For now these rules have been in place for a number of years and have worked well.
