^^ I recall last year when Jooris "made" the team (i.e. he was told to get a permanent place to live), the question of whether he would change numbers came up. I can't recall if he was asked to change numbers, or simply asked if he wanted to change numbers, but I recall he wanted to keep 86 because he just bought a bunch of #86 jerseys as Christmas presents.
This article from last year also suggests he wanted to keep 86:

Well, Sven seemed to take offense to being asked to change to 27, which is weird because 47 was a number that was just randomly assigned to him and he wore 27 in junior. As we've since found out, he took offense to a lot of things that weren't meant to offend him.
I don't recall hearing any grumbling from Jones being asked to change from 54 to 19.
From what I remember, when Johnny was given 13 at the start of the regular season last year, he said it was nice to get his number from College, but making the team was more important to him than what number he wore. I'm sure most players feel that same way.
Sven takes a lot of **** on this site, of course some is deserved, but to defend him here, his concern was that a lot of fans had bought #47 jerseys already.
I don't recall him taking offense, rather just pointing out that he would have preferred to keep his number for the fans, not himself.

From a photoshoot last summer I think. Gaudreau wearing 53. Hell, the video was posted in May when Gaudreau and Bennett were playing in the playoffs.
I hope Bennett gets 93, I think it looks much better than 39. I don't think that is confirmation though, is that video from before last season started?
Also, look at his socks. They are those weird ones that we had for a season where the stripes didn't wrap fully around the leg.
