He needed more than a year to get used to the NA game and improve his skills in the AHL. He should stick around for one more year before heading home.

From the Hamburg Freezers website and via Google Translate:

Quote:
"For me it was clear that I will play again for Hamburg when I go back to Germany," said David Wolf, who has rejected a new offer of the Calgary Flames, "I had a great year in Calgary, where I humanly me and have evolved sporty, but in Germany, I feel just more comfortable. "

Thats fine, I'm sure he makes decent money over there and it's his native country. Looks like he's pretty popular.

I do think he could have used another year, and if he improved his skating, maybe earned a contract somewhere. Not here though. Good luck David, hope you enjoyed it.

Too bad I guess, but more ice time for guys like Agostino and Klimchuk down in Stockton.

Got to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. No matter what happens with the rest of his career his decision to come over here gave him that experience. Gotta love that at least.

Probably a tough call for those guys. DEL is more prestigious than AHL, and he's likely making more dough there. Plus from what I have read, he's a star there and basically adored by fans.

Unless he's got a clear shot at the NHL, DEL would look pretty enticing for a native of the country.

It's too bad though, I liked him. I will forever remember Wolf because of Getzlaf. During warmup in game 2, Wolfie was chirping Getzlaf hard. Getzlaf turned and laughed and asked out loud, "who is this guy?". It was a cool moment

Yeah, I don't think it'd be a very tough choice if the money is similar (or worse in the A).

Be a star in your home country vs. Be a pleb in the minors

Probably for the best. Wolf can take his NHL experience and further dominate the DEL, and we had too many guys that humanly evolved even sportier than Wolf.

He was a good story and he was entertaining as well. I think he left it too long to come over to NA and he's now too old to adapt. He seemed like a good guy, good luck to him.

I don't think his age played a factor, he just didn't have the skill set to be a regular NHL player. His skating was awful, and playing on a team that wants to be a speed team and forecheck when you are lugging behind you will look out of place.

Better prospects ahead of him on the depth chart so he probably saw the writing on the wall. In my view there's also no way he's a better option than Bollig.
