I have owned BB Black Fleece before. Pound for pound, the Samuelsohn is a better suit. Just sayin'. You want to talk about brand name flashiness...
You must mean the BBBF made in the USA on the east coast - I forget the factory name.
BBBF made in Italy (before, IIRC, 2010 or so) was made by Rafaelle Caruso, and was basically a Thom Browne styled version of Caruso mainline suits, which are on par with any of the Brionis, Sartorio, Attolini, Kiton etc for quality and handwork. They are beautifully made suits.
They moved production to the States because, according to them, it was more in keeping to have their clothes be USA-made. But in reality, the Caruso-made suits had to be retailed for just shy of $3000 USD, and there wasn't enough of a market. BBBF in the USA retailed about half of that ($1600 for a suit was pretty standard after the move).

I can't remember the last time I paid anything close to MSRP for a suit. You can always find deals if you're patient and know what you're looking for. In a hurry? You pay more.

Enjoyed the read here and agree with a lot of things being said however I don't agree with the prices on some things. The city has high high markups on suits so maybe make a couple phone calls to some small towns.
I am too far out of Calgary for most of you but if any of the small town men's shops are like us we sell a Jack Victor suit at $595 that is $800-$900 in the cities.

O'Connors is expensive, but has the best customer service and quality in town. I wear my clothes pretty hard and they mend/tailor everything that I've gotten there for free, even years later.
Supreme Men's Wear has been treating me well for the last 20 years, but to be honest, any of them, O'Connors, or Ed Williams will treat you well. All of them are so much better than the Harry Rosens of the world in terms of knowledge or service, though if you're a brand guy they may not have all the lines. Supreme's has a downtown location which is handy for me.
The reality is - all of them are rather incestious. Ed's, Supreme's, and O'Connors all basically had a massive Doug Gilmour-esque 3 team trade where each store basically traded their staff for each other's.
It all comes down to the fitting and tailoring. Brand doesn't matter nearly as much as this. That and since I'm not as fashionable as peter2 or Corsi, they pick stuff for me that actually looks good. I've just come to learn I just don't know what looks good. So I let others do that for me....at a price.

I like Boss suits, a lot. I usually buy on sale at Harry Rosen's when they two their semi annual "unadvertised" sales. I also have a brooks brothers suit that I'm fond of. I also have two other Kenneth Cole suits from the bay that were like ~500. In the end I just bought ones that fit well and paid a decent tailor to alter them. The ~500 suits aren't nearly as nice but they are functional.
I spend a lot on shirts, most of which are Alain Figaret that I buy when I'm in Paris (which isn't that often) because they don't fit like a garbage bag.
I don't spend on shoes, even though I know I should, I have a pair of hugo boss and something else that was like ~250 bucks.
I disagree with Corsi, I like the break in my pants, flood pants look ridiculous.
I've been buying cheap clothes all my life, until last year. I went into Harry Singer one day looking for a Winter Jacket and left with 4 shirts, three pairs of pants, shoes, belt and a sport coat. I no longer have to decide what to wear as anything I select goes with everything else. The difference in how I am percived is remarkable.
I chuckled at this and am obviously easily amused.

How far is "too far"? Some of us wear suits every day, and our wardrobe needs often exceed our budgets--driving a bit to get a better deal doesn't seem that unreasonable.

2-2.5 hours NE of Calgary in Stettler. I shouldn't say "too far" but it's not a quick trip. Jack Victor is our "high end" as there aren't too many daily suit wearers here. I do have an account with S Cohen (we buy their overcoats) so I could probably grab something from them.
I think it's a fair trade off. They get to wear suits in almost any colour, whereas I am stuck with different shades of 3-4 colours. I'd love to be able to wear a red or green suit, but I can't because I'm not a pimp. I wish I could wear a pink suit, but with the amount of people at my highschool, on opposing sports teams, and on the internet that have called me gay, I probably shouldn't try to pull this off.

This is a false dilemma - I wasn't advocating for flood pants. But a classic, standard suit should have trousers that break once or twice. Any more and you look sloppy.
