But sounds like they are hopeful that they can negotiate with AIK.

If he can go to Stockton is there an option for Anirondack (ECHL)? Even Nylander 8th overall pick 2014 who was a PPG in the SEL with Modo (last place club)... the league above AIK was pretty ordinary in the AHL.

You're right, those teams are especially going to regret not picking Kylington.

Honestly, I don't really care too much where he plays this next season although I'm leaning towards Brandon. Hopefully signing him helps get him some stability though. Playing on that many teams in one year (last season) can't be that great for his development...

That's nothing. Boston passed on Matthew Barzl three times in a row at 13, 14, and 15.
The same Matthew Barzal some of us Flames fan were crossing fingers for miraculously falling to us at 15

Just because he has NHL caliber skating doesn't mean he's ready for the NHL. It sounds like he has a lot to learn still and can develop further in the AHL, WHL or SEL.
|
The Allsvenskan, not the SEL. AIK plays in Sweden's 2nd tier league.

Has a defenceman drafted in the second round ever played an NHL game in their first season post draft?
I don't remember ever hearing about it.
I remember it being a huge deal when Ryan O'Reilly broke camp with the Colorado Avalanche.

Ya but if a sane team was picking at #13 and #14, you can bet Barzal and Connor would've been picked there (maybe Zboril). Regardless, it's only because of Boston he would have fallen to us, he would've likely been gone by 15 if the Lucic trade didn't happen. Can't predict that casserole of nonsense.
In some alternate universe Barzal is #2 on CP prospect poll right now, but I'll take Hamilton thank you very much. Monahan-Bennett-Barzal though... DAAYUMM

Probably not a tonne but it has happened. Andreas Lilja was drafted in 2000, played 2 games in the 2000-2001 season.

Boy I think some expectations are a bit out of hand. It could be YEARS before he sees an NHL regular season game. Which is perfectly fine. A guy like him needs patient development and time. We only need look at a certain dman up the highway, with huge offensive skills, to see how rushing a guy to the NHL can ruin an asset.

Ah, that memorable player ...
Anyway, Weber was a 2nd rdr (same year as Phaneuf ). How long did it take him to break in?

There's pretty much no way that Kylington plays a game at the beginning of the year. Offensively he is more than ready to go, but he's a bit of a project in his own zone. Morrison and Spoon are much more reliable players. Kylington needs to focus on developing his defensive game where ever he plays. Even if he becomes just okay defensively, he'll be a force in the NHL.

All I can get
|
I recall Steve Konroyd played 4 games in 1980-81 after being drafted 39th over-all. Same year Tony Curtale played 2 games (31st over-all).
Kevin LaVallee (32nd over-all) the same year. He stayed the full season.
The only Flames second-rounder examples that I can recall. All happened that one year.
In reality, Kylington was one pick away from being a third-rounder. I doubt he gets a whiff of coffee in the bigs this upcoming season (although I'd be happy to be proven wrong).

Yeah but I think some are worrying too much about Flash's prediction. He didn't say he'd come into camp as an 18 year old dominate and make the team, he said at some point he thinks he'll play a game.
If the Flames put him in the AHL and run into injuries on the big club it might happen. One game, big whoop.

I know that if he plays in the WHL his contract slides. And if he plays in the AHL he is a pro that makes him eligible for UFA at 25.
What happens if he plays for AIK? Now that he is signed, and that is a pro league, does his UFA clock start ticking?

I'm not totally sure but that doesn't sound completely correct.
If OK plays in any league other than the NHL, his NHL contract should slide.
If he plays 10 or more games in the NHL, a year of his ELC is burned. If he plays 40 or more games in the NHL, then he has used up a year towards UFA status.
So to answer your question, if he plays in Sweden, his NHL contract should slide.
