That's actually cleaner than I would have expected after the Grandstand show.

Yeah, I've been to many crowded events. Hell, most hockey arenas arent pretty when you turn the house lights up.
This is just groundless anti-Stampede rabble.

No kidding. I'm not making fun of Carnies anymore. He brings in between $1000-$15,000 a day and works 54 days a year? Thats not a bad gig.

What is Vice going for as a media outlet? Gonzo journalism? It is like a bad blog with a logo. Mostly hit or miss. Some hits like the North Korea doc, but such garbage masquerading as journalism.

I've just been reading through those VICE 'articles.'
They're pretty much one-way negative.
"Everything sucks and if you like something it sucks and you suck too."
Who is writing these things? Its so amateur its like some College kid's blog.

Vice used to be mint, when they were doing focused, in-depth stories that other outlets wouldn't touch.
Now it's a watered-down, corporate-sponsored online newspaper that panders to sarcastic hipsters. Too bad, it used to be good.

Vice loves to slag Calgary and Alberta in general, it's the toilet of online media.

Thats pretty much it. And its hilarious in its own irony.

Well, that is the amount the game brings in, and the person working the game gets a commission. IIRC from when friends used to work them, they made more money based on the ratio of money coming in and lack of prizes given out. So some friends did better than others.
Growing up in Winnipeg there would be a few people who would work for the Red River Ex, come to Calgary for the Stampede and then Edmonton for Klondike Days. Some made good money over those 5-6 weeks, but very few ever did it again.

Did I miss something? I don't think the article was a dig at Calgary or even the Stampede. More like showing the characters behind the scenes after the party's over. I thought it was interesting.

I posted the same exact thing in the cancer treatment thread.
They're awful. I had them on FB for about a month before I got tired of opening my news feed and having 4 or 5 vice articles telling me about how everything in the world is sh*t and we're all awful people.
They're unbearable.

I wasnt digging at the 'article' that was posted, I went through a bunch of other linked articles.
Its like some emo College kid's blog.
"I went to a party in Hamilton and took a photo of this trashed guy! Gawd, Hamilton is such a craphole!!!"
"I have to retreat to my neo-Vegan compound in the hills of BC to recover from the brutal socio-fascist Stampede!!"
Its literally taking minor personal anecdotes and making a blanket statement about a City or group from the perspective of an ignorant child who may or may not have once taken a poli-sci class and Intro to Writing.
And I'll do you a favour: Don't read the comments. Do. Not. Read. The Comments.

Interesting. The carny culture is fascinating.
Do they actually own the game(s) and have to pay the main carnival company a commission too?

Thats nuts.

Actually stampede attendance numbers include all staff, volunteers, insects, Bulls, horses, etc.
It also counts staff for each time they pass through the turnstile, so one employee could easily count for 10 visitors.

So attendance this year would have been much lower if not for that ant infestation.
