The last time he played hockey he was pretty close to the worst d-man at the U18 tournament... on the larger ice surface, playing against 16 and 17 year olds.

Did someone find a supply of the Bobby Orr stem cells in the last 3 months?

He was also a very decent defenceman on AIK playing against men. Pro-rated, their highest scorer. And he was good on the SHL as well, against men. On the larger surface.

I watched him play 2 years ago in the ahl Allstar game. His Swedish team against the ahl all stars. I paid pretty close attention as he was only 16 at the time and my son thought it was cool he had to wear a cage to play.

At 16 his skating was on par with the ahl Allstar players. I can't imagine it regressed any. He was out of his league when it came to puck battles and his first decision was slow but so were a lot of other players on that Swedish team as the smaller ice really gave them trouble the first 2 periods of that game.

His stick handling was really good. We got to watch him in the skills completion the day before and he was on par or above most of the players there. He took part in the hardest shot and registered the 3rd hardest shot of 6 shooters. So skills wise the kid had talent at 16 to justify playing in that game.

That being said, he was raw, you could just tell he was sheltered a little and the other players spent a lot of time talking to him about positioning before draws. Oh.. I and didn't like the way he taped his skates... Lol

He didn't always make the correct decisions, but he did give a solid effort. I didn't see him dogging anything.

I only saw the scrimmage, but I thought he was in the top 15-20% of the camp defensemen...his ability to rush the puck up, and his puck handling skills both stood out to me.
He didn't seem to be dogging it on any of his shifts, but he did get beat on the outside at least once that I remeber.

Kylington can play in NHL. Can play in the AHL next season if his club team AIK allows #Flames to put him there. They then have a first-dibs

I'm gonna say yes pure coincidence.....what else could it possibly be? Even if they have the same agent it's two different teams.

Wait, he signed his ELC? Why isn't this a new thread?

We don't have to have super huge mega threads guys. Someone signs a new deal, start a new thread.

The Orderbot 1.0 Model:Sureloss handles that stuff, and it did not deem a new thread necessary.

Is it fair to say that Kylington is now officially CPs most-watched, almost-3rd-round pick of all time?

All I know is that there are many, many reports of his elite level skating, excellent puck handling, and great offensive prowess. He needs work on decision making in his own end; who the hell doesn't at that age? All that can be taught, and it certainly appears the Flames have turned a page in handling young prospects.

I'm still shocked we got him at 60, and I'm extremely excited to see how this unfolds. It would be amazing to have Dougie, TJ & Kylington all pan out into great young defencemen.

Maybe. It's mainly a function of him being followed a lot before the draft as a potential pick at 15. Even after he was downgraded so heavily, there were still a bunch of posters wanting him at 15. I wasn't one of those, but I was pleased the Flames could get him at 60, which was way later than expected.

just a coincidence, but I remember that's what Hakan Loob also said about OK, that he should go to NA and start fresh as, rightly or wrongly, the coaches in Sweden had preconceptions about him...

I agree though, if he is allowed to go to Stockton, I am sure Calgary will call him up to play at some point during the season... just as a kind of motivational tool even...

Can't the Flames just pay AIK to keep him in NA? Like a classic soccer transfer fee?

Then the Flames can do whatever they want with him without worrying about Sweden.

I believe the short answer to this question is yes.

Actually, it's no. The Flames already have to pay the transfer fee to sign him to a contract. Under IIHF transfer rules, I believe they are not allowed to make any additional payments.

If he's in North America, wouldn't Brandon be the right place for him? Allow him to learn the North American game at a lower level?
