Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Kylington and Oduya both sign today. They're together at Oduya's house in Spain. They served as witness to each others contracts.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Kylington: “It was very funny. We signed it together. I was his witness and he was mine. That was funny. It was a great day for both of us.”

Maybe the Flames think he's one of their top ten prospects too!

He'll end up in Sweden but still a good singing to a) get it done and b) allow him to hopefully partake in rookie camp and Penticton. Great way to see where he lines up with Calgary's bubble guys and that of other W. Canadian teams.

Yeah signing him to a contract mainly allows him to come to Penticton and training camp as he will be with the NHL team.

If the Flames try and "cut him" from the NHL roster, AIK will likely take him back.

This gives them the option of bringing him over for camp and giving him the chance to make the Flames, even if it's a long shot. If he didn't sign, his team in Sweden wouldn't likely release him because their season will be underway (it looks like they start at the beginning of September).

Because his contract can slide two years, there's no disadvantage to getting him signed now.

It doesn't happen often, but if he's a got a contract and he's at camp, he has every bit as much of a shot as any other rookie defenceman. He's got more talent than any other D prospect they have.

He arguably needs as much development as any D prospect in the organization.

He's young, no one is arguing that. But he's been playing against men for a few years already and in that respect, is ahead of the curve.

I'll acknowledge that I haven't watched him play enough to say where he ranks against the other prospects, but he was higher ranked than anyone in the organization and I'm excited to see what he can do.

Default With the 60th OA pick the Flames select D Oliver Kylington UPD: CHL rights to...

This is a great opportunity to have him with the Flames through training camp. I can't imagine he would make the team but he will get a great view of what he needs to do to be successful. Plus the Flames get a couple of months with him to set him up for a good season. Win win

Getting him in for all the preseason stuff is a huge first step. Maybe even a pre season game or two as well.

He will not make Calgary's team this year. Yes he was our 2nd rated Dman, but he is not the 2nd NHL ready Dman.
These players ahead of him.

Giordano, Brodie, Hamilton, Wideman, Russell, Engelland
Smid, Wotherspoon, Morrison, Nakladal
Maybe others aswell.

mmmm.... I am actually really surprised with the signing, tho not necessarily in a bad way...

does this mean the Flames want him in NA this upcoming year? Sure he can go back to AIK too, but as someone mentioned, what at the benefits to signing him if he goes back to AIK?

interesting development - there's a chance OK sees his first NHL this season if he's a call up from Stockton...

I think the end game for all of this is to get him into NA. Wouldn't surprise me if they do in fact play him with the main sqaud for a few games of the regular season to get him out of it then send him to the AHL if that is what needs to happen or can happen.

I think Nakladal ends up with the Schlemko role to start the season.
