The Superdogs were much better in The Corral. I think they had a larger performance area but more importantly it was easier to go see the show. You could pretty much drop by The Corral at show time and find a seat. Now you have to plan ahead to see the show by getting a ticket beforehand. I really don't like that aspect of the show in the Big 4.

Oh so are you a barrel racer then?

Thats not a bad turnout considering the unbelievable heat and the ridiculous rain on the last few days.

I agree with some of the posters here about the Stampede park itself. I went this year for the first time in a while, and I must say hosting a "world renowned" event at basically a parking lot with uneven walking surfaces seems very amateur. The new Agrium building sure is a step up from the old days of the big tent, but still a long ways to go in my opinion.
The stampede isn't going anywhere, so why not upgrade the actual stampede site?

There was a plan to expand the elbow river valley into a green area by about this time, but I think factors like the flood pushed it back.
Still though, the Stampede board is resting on their laurels. They need to update the event and change it up a little. I'm not saying get rid of any events, just bring it up to speed a little.
It's like Spruce Meadows. At one point it was the best show jumping site in the world. Now it's lucky to be in the top 10. Stampede Park is showing its age. They gotta invest some real money into it again.
Green space was on the list though. We'll see if they get around to it.

Yeah, I doubt the weather factored in at all. Stampede generally does better in the heat, and the rain was not bad at all compared to other years. All economy I'm guessing.
Still, that's a huge draw. I thought we'd be closer to the million mark. A drop of 90,000 is very small.

Enmax Park is opening next year. Green space across the river in what used to be parking/light industrial space (where Stampede had all their tradespeople and such. It's been in the works for a few years but, I think, got delayed by the flood.

Good Lord. I couldnt imagine being in there with 160,000 people. Is that some sort of record for a single day?

Does anyone know where this year's World Fair(Expo) is, because I sure don't know and I don't really care.
I would imagine the Stampede ranks below the World Fair, which means it doesn't really register around the world.
When you google 50 best festivals it doesn't show up on any of the lists.

The highest record for a 'single day' attendance that I could find is this one:
Sunday July 8, 2012 - 184,483
2012 is the current benchmark year, so I'm thinking unless I missed a higher day somewhere in there, that's probably your single day record.

Yup, 2012 shattered most of the records. That was the first Sunday when everyone gets in free before 9:00am.
That would have been a frickin' zoo.
