Default The forward glut (who would you have in Cgy in Oct)

Ok one of those polls many screw up.

Pick either 13 or 14 forwards (up to you), not one!

Get a good idea of how the group sees the picking order of the almost 20 forwards that could be in Calgary this fall.

Inexplicably this poll will manage to have givens at less than 100%, but what can you do?!

Jones, Raymond, Granlund, Poirier, Wolf, Arnold Klimchuk don't make it.

Ferland and Granlund start in Stockton because they can without hitting waivers. There's no room for Byron, Poirier, Arnold, or Klimchuk unless other forwards are traded off. Wolf belongs in Stockton.

Jones will have to make it unless they trade him. I highly doubt they send him to the AHL as he's going to be one of the guys at the deadline that they can move for a pick/picks like Glencross.

I went with the usual suspects and Poirier as my rookie to make the team this year. Granlund starts on the farm but Ferland's playoff performance secures him on the third line with Backlund and Bouma.

I think Stajan moves on before October. His role has been diminished, but I think he still has a lot to offer other teams. He shouldn't be a 4th line center.

At that time of year you are not losing anyone on waivers unless you waive a guy like Gaudreau. Claiming players on waivers is a lot more than just grabbing a free player.

Why would they trade Jones? He's a right shooting RW who was extremely effective in the playoffs

And he's big and can skate and is physical. Exactly what everyone says that we need. I'm expecting Jones to continue to play really well going into next year.

Jooris is a wild card for me, though I picked him in my 13. I loved his game when he was on, but a subpar camp could see any number of guys leapfrog him in the organization, including Granlund and Shore.

Very true, and I expect Treliving will have a good feel for the market and know whether placing waiver eligible players on waivers is a real risk or not. I just kept most of them on the roster because it's easy and simple.

Because there is a glut at the forward position.

There is a glut at the LW and C position. There's a massive hole at RW

On the bottom six, maybe. Jooris, Shore, Byron, Colborne, or whoever is just as capable of filling those spots as Jones. And they're all cheaper, which may be a consideration at some point - if not earlier in the season, then towards the trade deadline.

The glut means there are no easy choices on who to keep, who to deal, who to sit out.

The Flames have 3 right hand shots on forward, Shore, Jones and Jooris. That's insanely low. Everyone here is so high on Ferland, but Jones is the same size, more mature and has a better shot while also playing a position of need. Jones has the 3rd line RW spot locked down.

Hudler
Frolik
Colborne
Shore
Jooris

There won't be a glut by the end of training camp and the preseason I bet.

Veterans make the roster out of camp, guys like Poirier make a push later in the season.

Clocks ticking for Bill Arnold, he needs a big camp.

Notnsurenthere is room for prospects like Arnold, Porier or even Granlund full time yet.

My tentative lines right now

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Bouma-Backlund-Frolik
Colborne-Bennett-Jones
Ferland-Stajan-Jooris
Shore

I would be okay with Bollig as the 14th forward or possibly Byron. Raymond just doesn't fit this team anymore

Bouma - Bennett - Colborne (sheltered)
Ferland - Stajan - Raymond (4th line)
Jooris, Bollig

Jones - Gets injured in training camp
Bollig - Hopefully traded
Granlund - Sent down
Poirier - Sent down
Klimchuk - Turns pro in AHL
Wolf - Sent down
Arnold - Sent down

Yeah, I expect that's how it will go. 15 vets up front, so I think someone gets exposed to waivers or traded off the roster around the start of the season. Two someones if we carry three goalies for a while at the start.

And there are pending UFAs to consider moving closer to the deadline. The wildcard will be if someone forces their way onto the roster like Jooris last season.
