He does have a contract with AIK right now. It sounded like he wanted to fulfill that contract. Maybe things have changed in the last week.

If your referring to me I'm not a Jankowski hater. Have no issue with the player. More so the decision making that resulted in the pick. But we don't need to go into that. I just get a kick out of the fact that the same posters get so defensive anytime hes brought up. It's like your his mother or dating him.

Speaking of posters that bring down the level of discussion and bring nothing to the table.

In Edmonton, that's usually the same thing....
As for Janko, I think any Flames fan is excited to see any of the Flames prospects do well. I'm in the same boat as Hackey though, I didn't like the pick because I really wanted them to get Maata. Just because people disagree with the pick, doesn't mean they don't like the prospect.
Some of these guys look amazing and right now (like it's been for the past year) it's a friggin' amazing time to be a Flames Fan!

The Fan club leader. Who would have thought. Glad to hear he is doing well though even if it is just a development camp. Big year for him coming up.

It's gonna take about 45 minutes to upload each of the big files for the 30 minute halves, the first half has about 32 minutes remaining till it's uploaded.
I was watching some of the video and it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I'm thrilled.
Do you want me to post the first half video when it's ready or wait until I upload all of them and do it all together?

Jankowski has always been a bit of a longer term project.
Personally I would like him in the AHL this year as part of natural progression.
3 years in the NCCA.
2 years in the AHL
And then he starts to have a shot to crack the NHL lineup during the 17/18 season after getting some spot time in 16/17.

Post the first half ASAP!
I meant to wake up early enough to go this morning, somehow slept through my alarms and woke up at 11:30... d'oh.

I'm thrilled too, so all the negative nancies can shut up about Jankowski and watch him showcase his skills.

Burke and Treliving have been pretty consistent about their thoughts that you can't over-season a guys development that much so I'm fine with him returning, though I agree he can definitely play in the AHL this year.
After that I wouldn't think he'll need more then a year, year and a half, in the AHL before hopefully making the jump. There will be a lot of new interesting challenges this season in College so that's exciting too from a development stand point.

I'll be leaving the sound in so you get the arena noise in there. I didn't talk too much during the video mainly because I was focusing on following the puck, but you will hear Dan a bit more than I through the video. The first period should be ready in 20 min.

First, thanks Caged, I'm loving all this info and details.
Second, was it loud in there? I just wonder how 'invitees' and 'future prospects' feel when they come to a development camp and the place is packed (and the fans are loud?). Must be like "yep. this is where I want to be!"

Now 2 months of hitting refresh, or until Gio signs.

It was mostly quiet unless someone scored, in which case there were cheers. Some ooh's and awes when a player dangled the puck through people or scored a nice goal.
t-6 minutes

After not having centers for so long, I am thrilled the Flames have actual depth at the position and I hope they do everything possible to keep that depth. It would be great in two seasons time (17-18 season) to have a 28 year old Backlund as an option to press the other three centers (Monahan 23, Jankowski 23, Bennett 21) to keep their play at a high level and earn their minutes night in and night out.
|
Stajan and Jones are on the downward curve of their career, though, while Backlund is not. And Stajan's skill set is very suited for a 4th line role. And I say this as one of the biggest Stajan supporters this year. Plus Jones was on the second line, not the 4th.
I am just saying it's unlikely that Backlund would be used as a 4th line centre. He'd be more valuable as a trade asset if that was the only spot for him on this team.

There's what, 5 or 6 guys older than him including Nakladal? He's right in among the older group, not to mention this is his third development camp. He has more experience than the bulk of players here is all I'm saying.
I am very pleased with his progression and think we have a player here. I'm just saying that he should be looking good since he's been developing within our system since 2012

Nakladl wasn't mentioned much today. Is it pretty accepted he could challenge for a roster spot?
When is Rafikov going to be able to attend one of these?

Nakladl was scratched and is a guaranteed Pro(AHL/NHL). No need to take a look at him in a scrimmage today.

I really don't get the negative talk on Janko anyway, People keep chirping of who the flames missed at 14 rather than the mistake pick they could have taken.
By all accounts they wanted a big skilled C, Grigorenko and Fatsa were taken 12/13, Girgenson taken 14th wasn't big at 6'0 anyway. Ceci and Maatta were defenseman so that leaves non centers the little fin Teravainen(meh) and Hertl who after bursting on the scene now plays like a deer caught in headlights.
Anyone else they could have took doesn't look like much of an NHL'er at this point.
