It's interesting to me that they moved this scene from its context in the first season to now. That might speak to the lack of big scenes they have to film going forward, based on the loose outline they have in mind to wrap up the story. Still, it will be cool seeing Ned again. Assuming Bean is going to be involved in the scene.
How to they tie it in? Treevision from Bran? Bloodraven revealing it to Bran or Jon? Howland Reed appearing? Should be fun to see it unfold.

Or to explain why Jon is worth resurrecting.

The other side of that tower looks even more like how I envisioned the Tower of Joy...

We've spent a lot of time speculating on who is supposed to be Azor Ahai and there's been times I've thought it's probably Danaerys. She was reborn in fire and woke the stone dragons. The only thing she doesn't have is the sword. In fact ive been re-reading the books and in 'A Feast For Crows', Maester Aemon says it's her and she needs a Maester to guide her but he can't go... Could her third rider be Sam?? I can't believe how much I've forgotten since first I read these books!

Apparently GRRM wrote the "no"

In 'A Storm of Swords' Bran tells The story of the night king. Suppose cold hands is this ancient Stark who fell in love with an Other?

Bran Stark is confirmed for season 6:
Quote:
“I can’t say a lot, but I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran,” Wright said. “He has some interesting visions.”

Some... 'joyful' visions perhaps?
Seems like in that article they plan to play it like Bran was training during the entire events of season 5. Comparing it to Skywalker in Star Wars.

Season 6 has officially started filming in Belfast and twitter has had more than a few tweets of Kit Harrington sightings, mostly at the air port.. maybe it is a troll maybe it is truth, no pics have surfaced yet. It will be pretty tough to keep it all under wraps if he is indeed in on the filming.

He hasn't cut his hair yet either. Clearly EW was in on the Parade of Lies as one podcast named it.

It would be cool if they opened the season with it, kind of how they opened this season with the Maggy the frog flashback.

With the amount of weddings, executions, and praying happening at weirwood trees I assume Bran will have access to pretty much any information that could result in a plot twist. For him to discover Jon's heritage from a weirwood tree feels like a copout to me though, considering how recent it is in the scope of what the weirwoods have witnessed.
I think Jon's parentage is revealed by Howland Reed in a coup at King's Landing. I think Bran discovers something even more shocking, and much further back, about the Starks and their connection to the Others through the weirdwoods.

Finally finished ADWD and read through this whole thread. Fun to see the comparisons to the show from a reader's perspective.
I'm interested to see who everyone thinks Ian McShane has been cast as. My best guess would be Euron or Victarion. Some rumors say it could be Randyll Tarly, but I think he is better suited to be a Greyjoy. Aeron's description in the book really fits McShane, but I think he may be too old to be the damphair.

I read somewhere (can't remember where, maybe Vanity Fair online) speculating that Euron and Victarion will be condensed like Edric and Gendry.

Best Azor Ahai theory yet. Fits all the requirements better than Danny or Jon!

That's a very likely outcome. However, after first resenting the Victarion chapters I started appreciating his perspective and the tear between loyalty and hate between him and his brother.
The more I think about it, the more I believe McShane is the perfect fit for Aeron. His look is exactly what I pictured when reading.
