Sieloff is different from all of those guys, he brings an element that none of them do and that is truculence.

Some on this board see zero need for any physicality but hockey is still a physical game. I think you would like to have at least one physical type defensive defenceman in your rotation.

Guys like Anderson/Kylington/Culkin/Kulak/Morrison/Hickey will be fighting each other for the 3,4, and 5 spot.

Guys like Sieloff, Kanzig, Ollas Mattson, and Bruce will be fighting for the 6 and 7 spot.

Ideally, if there's a guy who can fill both roles, that would be perfect, but I don't think the Flames have anyone like that in their system, maybe Rafikov is the closest.

I'm not familiar with that route but it sounds incredibly dangerous!

Enter COP via the ski jump, land in the bobsled track and race through the hairpins.

Sieloff turned 21 in May. Cutting a guy loose that early and that young would be pretty foolish.

Spotted at WinSport this afternoon, meeting up with Oliver Kylington, was Brandon coach/GM Kelly McCrimmon. Wheat Kings own his WHL rights.

At least he's speaking with the Wheaties exploring every option. I'm hoping the Flames get him to come to NA.

The problem with Sieloff is that he's very average in most ways and while he does bring physicality, he doesn't have a lot of size to go along with that. A player like Engelland is also fairly average in a lot of ways, but he has the size to go with the physicality. On defense you can't really have players that are just average in all areas. There needs to be some sector where they are well above average, otherwise you can just go sign someone like Diaz and say Schelmko for 1 million and get an upgrade over that player. You can handle having a forward that is very average as the 12th/13th forward without issue. The problem there is that the Flames have so many forwards that converting him wouldn't make a ton of sense.

He needs to improve either in a couple specific areas or overall this season or he will get pushed out due to having so much depth. Whether he does that or not is up to him really, and I do like him and wish that he could figure those things out because he does seem like a good leader to have in the room. We won't know though until the season progresses. At worst he'll be moved like the Flames dealt Reinhart last week.

I could see Sieloff carving out a career like a Scott Hannan but even Hannan scored 45 points in junior. The thing is his big hitting game isn't going to transfer from junior because as said, he isn't the biggest and he hasn't become a feared fighter either. Things may come together for him yet and with his bad luck, he's probably gained a whole lot of character.

i'd rather Kylington play in Sweden if the alternative was the CHL.

If he's coming to play in the AHL, i'm all for it.

Yeah, I'd like to see Kylington go to Brandon. He isn't the biggest guy and an introduction to the small ice and more physical game at a lower level than the AHL would be a good step. I think his dad described him not as a defenceman but as a rover. If he wants to play that style junior would give him more of a chance to succeed. Also playing junior we don't waste a year or two of his entry contract?

Why are there many hoping he plays in AiK rather than WHL? I want him getting tons of playing time and adjusting to the smaller ice and being closer to us can only be a good thing. I understand in Sweden he may be playing with "tougher" competition but it's not a developmental league and if he's not getting the playing time it's not going to help him. Hell Klimchuk has been playing in Brandon this last season and past in the WHL and it certainly hasn't stifled his development, but that's just a thought. One season in Brandon and hopefully moving to the A next year would be good in my eyes.

Loob thinks he should play in North America. Therefore, I think he should play in North America.

Don't dispute the size issue, but the one thing that makes Sieloff unique as a physical defensive defenceman is his skating. He skates really well for that type of defenseman. He skates as well as Phaneuf did before the hip injuries. With the way the league is going, a defensive physical defenceman who can skate could be very valuable.

hehe, Bigrig grabbing Mangiapane in the scrum would be quite the mismatch. Like seeing those sides of our players.

Happy to do it.

I'll be posting some video shortly.

Just remembered that I took a bunch of video from the morning groups now.
