Don't really care if other fans believe the few of us on the Kylington train are out to lunch. Because in reality, not one of us know factually how things will shake out. Not a damned one. I'm not running around telling everyone else their votes are stupid or uninformed. Because they aren't.

I personally just see the ridiculous upside and believe even if he hits half his ceiling the Flames have and elite skating top 4 d man. Easy.

That's fine, but wouldn't you say Kylington's size is a genuine concern if he only hits half his ceiling?

I feel like Kylington indeed has the highest ceiling but also the biggest hill to climb to even be an NHLer.

No, Size is the furthest concern when it comes to Kylington, the concern for me about him is his ability to learn the NA game and be at least competent defensively. Which I think will happen.

Don't know how 6'0 185lbs is a major concern for size. I mean really. There's plenty of good NHL D men at that size. And being one of the younger draftees this year, still room to put an inch or two in height on.

For this round it's picking between somewhat established NHL player in Granlund vs. the potential of Hickey. I sided with Granlund as I think he has a 400 game career in front of him as a tweener 2nd or 3rd line forward. I'm hopeful on Hickey, but with Granlund scratching the NHL to the extent he has, I went with him here.

Brodie's around a shade under 6'2.
Kylington is 6'0 exactly and seems to have pretty narrow shoulders/hips, which suggests to me his frame won't have the most room for added mass.

Most guys that size who do make it compensate with smarts (Karlsson) or a bit thicker frame (Wideman) or both (Giordano).

If Kylington reaches his full potential the size isn't a concern. But if he only reache half his potential then I'm not so sure.

Here's a good read about Hickey and the other Freshman defensemen at BU during the 2014/15 season. It's a short read, but explains Hickey's "Jack-of-all-trades" appeal. It was published in the Daily Free Press (the BU independent student newspaper) just before the national title game.

Wouldn't imagine "Summer 2008 prospect ranking" anyone ranked Brodie in top-10. Even top-15

Granlund is underrated because people have seen him at the NHL level so they know somewhat what he is. These other guys haven't been seen at the NHL level so people can dream that they'll be something more.

McDonald will scorch up this rankings next year after people get to see him at the world juniors.

http://www.calgarypuck.com/future-flames-prospect-list/
Article in 2009 where Bingo put him at #9. Also have to take draft position into account. As a 4th rd pick Brodie had a higher hill to climb to get where he is today. Hickey was an early 3rd rounder coming out of a lower competition league who had a great Freshman year on a very competitive team

I'm not sure how a player who has the most NHL exposure of all the prospects can be seen as under rated.

I'm probably in the minority, but I haven't been overly impressed with Granlund's NHL play. He got most of his points in a 10 game span, and the majority of those points were lucky bounces/fortunate plays by teammates. I don't think he's a very good neutral zone player and isn't great at forcing the puck into the offensive zone. I see his ceiling as 3rd line Centre, and although he has a high chance of becoming just that, it's not enough to rank him ahead of a few other prospects.

A player like Hickey I see as a potential top-4 defenceman and by all accounts he's been progressing well into that. He's also not a boom/bust type player and will likely be an NHLer even if he doesn't reach his potential. That's enough to take my vote.

I was told the WJC games are basically meaningless as Jankowski and Klimchuk and Poirier were not selected to play in them and Kylington wasn't on the Swede U20 summer team and Arnold and Granlund really did well at them.

However nobody discounted Johnny Hockey's performance at the 2013 Gold medal which was when the world noticed that he was better than a #104 overall.

I want to see how Hickey looks playing along side 2014 #7 overall Hayden Fluery and 2014 #17 overall Travis Sanheim and yes I will be disappointed if Hickey is not on the tourney team.

Article in 2009 where Bingo put him at #9. Also have to take draft position into account. As a 4th rd pick Brodie had a higher hill to climb to get where he is today. Hickey was an early 3rd rounder coming out of a lower competition league who had a great Freshman year on a very competitive team

what a list:

1 Mikael Backlund
2 Leland Irving
3 Matt Pelech

6 Keith Aulie
7 Mitch Wahl
8 Kyle Greentree

9 T. J. Brodie - the third 2008 draft pick in the top ten (joining Nemisz and Wahl) and likely the player with the greatest improvement versus his draft position. A great puck moving defenseman that is now working on the defensive side of his game to become a complete player. Intriguing prospect.

In The Prospect Class of 2009 Kylington might be a top-5 prospect based on his skating and play as a 15 year old.

I was really high on Granlund last summer. I thought he should have been ranked above Baertschi. However, his play this year took some of the shine off. In a year when there was lots of opportunities for young players, he never really stood out. Could have been just a bad year for him. Or the in and out nature of his playing time perhaps affected him. But really, I thought the other players in a similar position—Jooris, Shore, Ferland—made more of an impact with their time. Now, all three of those players are older than Granlund, so perhaps he takes a huge step this year. But I definitely think some other prospects have passed him in terms of their overall outlook with the organization moving forward.

Most guys that size who do make it compensate with smarts (Karlsson) or a bit thicker frame (Wideman) or both (Giordano).

If Kylington reaches his full potential the size isn't a concern. But if he only reache half his potential then I'm not so sure.

Come on man, just say you were wrong about Kylington's size instead of trying to validate your last post.

"Brodie's around a shade under 6'2". Okay so hes 6'1 and essentially the same height as Kylington who by all accounts is a 'shade' under 6'1. 185 lbs is above average for an 18 year old that's 6 feet tall. His NHL weight will probably be under 200 lbs and is the least of his concerns.

Went Kylington. A little surprised at the Granlund love, I just don't think he has the same upside as a guy like Kylington or Jankowski.

There are listings that have Brodie at 6'1" and those that have him at 6'2" so he's likely somewhere in the middle. We know for a fact as posted above that that Kylington is 6'0" / 180 exactly right now. We don't "know" 200lbs will be his playing weight considering how much his game relies on his absurd skating speed.

You missed the entirety of my post, but thanks for looking it up.

I was getting at the fact that Brodie is a 6'1" defenseman, so don't call him a shade under 6'2" in order to better fit your narrative. Who cares if it's 1 inch or 1.5 inches. It's too insignificant to mention, so why bother mentioning it?
