As far as I can see they still have to drop significant salary, at least one big contract, and I think their expectation for a Sharp return was a bit ridiculous.
|
Look at last year - they had to make a move and they waited until Sept to move Leddy. Move could happen tomorrow, but could be until training camp.
I wouldn't hold your breath - the only thing that may speed things up this year is that they want to bring back Oduya and he may not wait around forever.
Still some decent UFAs out there - have to wonder if this Chicago situation is holding up signings as teams are waiting for this to resolve itself before we see more movement.

Mark Lazerus @MarkLazerus
A couple of sources told me the Bruins were in on Patrick Sharp talks. Have to think they're out now. Isles, Flyers, Panthers interested.
James Mirtle @mirtle
Panthers also out. Blackhawks not going to be left with ton of suitors.

Bouma-Backlund-Jones
Ferland-Stajan-Colborne
So maybe the Leafs want a package of Granlund, Shore, Jooris, Raymond lol

Isn't JVR a left shooting left winger?

This gets to be a common theme when a young team has some success, they start signing UFAs and forget what got them their success.
|
Exactly. This is the slippery slope the Avs have gone down and IMO it has set them back significantly.

I don't think getting a guy like Semin would be a mistake at all, the coaching staff has shown they won't play favorites so it would create more competition and Semin could turn things completely around and be a team player who wants to mentor the youth, who knows.

Why on earth would we risk having Semin "mentor" our youth when he has been labeled as a weak willed floater his entire career?

A couple weeks ago I would have said that JVR was far more likely to be moved than Hamilton or Saad. It's a brave new world now! Anything is possible!

Andy Strickland @andystrickland
It appears Johhny Oduya is staying patient in hope of returning to #blackhawks. Told he turned down significant offer from #sabres

If the 'Hawks are having trouble finding a sensible deal for Sharp, I wonder if they would consider moving Crawford in exchange for a more economical goaltender to help free up enough cap space to sign Oduya. The guy sure is being patient...

I was wondering the same thing. Would the Flames want to do Crawford for Hiller? Maybe with the Flames retaining salary? Crawford has a no move clause as well, so they would have to convince him to go.
Crawford is 30 now, with 5 more years at a 6M cap hit. He's proven he can provide good goaltending in the playoffs. I'd definitely consider him for the Flames. He isn't considered by most as one of the upper echelon goalies, but he has cups to back up his play.

Crawford is bound to decline in performance, and the last couple of years could be brutal. His contract would prevent us from signing our own players. I got high hopes for Gillis and Ortio anyway. I thinks Flames should steer clear of him.

Please God no.. I don't think we want to be spending $6MM on an average goalie when we need to be signing Gaudreau Bennett Giordano and Monahan to contracts.

This is not to pick on you cheerio...but this sentiment about Crawford confuses me greatly and it seems to be growing and accepted.
I get he may not be "elite" in the Lundqvist/Price etc class....but the guy is far from "average"
Just a cursory look at last years stats says he was among the leaders in wins, save%, GAA (among guys that were bonafide starters anyhow)....not to mention 2 Stanley cup championships in recent times.
I think he deserves a LOT more credit than he receives.

6m for an older goalie isn't the answer. I'd rather get Sharp than Crawford

@JayZawaski670: Just spoke with a great source. Bickell is basically "unmovable" and only 1 or 2 teams are willing to take on Sharp's contract. 1/2
@JayZawaski670: 2/2 Could have a Sharp trade at some point this weekend. Return could be NHL ready d-man and prospect. This could all mean no Oduya.

I think there are more teams interested in Sharp but just not at the asking price first rumoured. I'd really like either of Sharp or Oduya on the Flames.
