Default Blues sign Tarasenko - 8 years, $60 million

As per TSN alert.

Adjust for Treliving and you probably have the right amount.

Seems like such a big chunk of cap. Gaudreau and Monahan on that kind of deal plus Gio plus Hamilton is a ton of cap space tied up

Great comparable. I can't see Gaudreau or Monahan getting more money than Tarasenko, but definitely something similar. I hope it's 8 years for $7 million.

ya, I really hope JG and Mony don't get that much yet. We can't have everyone making that kind of money or we will have to trade too many pieces. I hope these guys want to play together and won't ask for too much.

Anyway, probably a great deal for the Blues.

Based on stats alone, I'd say Monahan can now be projected as a 56M, 8 year contract. Gaudreau probably the same.

They won't get that much unless they put up 70+ points.

If they do, it's a good problem to have.

Blues, by salary cap hit: Tarasenko $7.5, Stastny $7, Pietrangelo $6.5, Steen $5.8, Bouwmeester $5.4, Backes $4.5, Shattenkirk $4.25

The good news for Blues fans: Stastny is no longer the highest paid player on the team

Bad news: He's still paid 7M

Good AAV for a player like Tarasenko. As always, 8 years is a long time to invest in any player, even if they are as good as Tarasenko. Anything past 5 years is a gamble IMO.

If they can both get into the 70 point range you could be correct, but I don't see Monahan hitting those levels, maybe Gaudreau.

He had 62 last year, why can't you see it?

Monahan had a 62 point season last year. You don't think he'll hit 70? Fairly rare to see a player hit his ceiling in his 2nd NHL season. Tarasenko did 43 points then 73 points - a 20 point increase between his 2nd and 3rd seasons. I don't think it's unrealistic to think Monahan could improve by 8 points.
