Curious as to why? Are the Jets super deep at RW or something? Or a cap issue?
Also - I'm assuming that you watched the Jets a lot last year, and apologies if you've already done so and I missed it, but would appreciate your thoughts on Frolik as a player and as a fit for the Flames.
I really haven't seen him play much. Thx man
I'll let the cat out of the bag on the Frolik situation.
Word has it that Frolik was ok with Winnipeg.
I'm not going to come out and say it, but I will give out a hint:
If you look on HFboards it doesn't take long to see that Jets fans liked Frolik. 90% of them were questioning why Cheveldayoff couldn't get a similar deal done with the Jets.
This was a solid signing and Frolik is an experienced cup winner who is only 27 years old.

"Lauren Pronger."

Flames fans are going to love Frolik.
Well played.
Edit: Ok I see what you meant by Frolik being 'ok' with Winnipeg. There was plenty of talk that Frolik was looking for Term and couldn't agree on a 4-5 year deal. I'll bet the rumor of Frolik's wife not liking Winnipeg was an assumption although probably is true.

Frolik won a cup with the Hawks in 2012-13
He was definitely a support player. On the Regular season he had the 10th most ice time of Chicago forwards.
Of the top 12 TOI Chicago forward the Hawks kept 8 and replaced 4 in 2013-14.
The guys they dropped were:
#7 in TOI Stahlberg was a UFA signed by Nashville 3M x 4 yrs... last year was sent to the AHL and this year he was bought out by Nashville and signed a 1.1 M 1 yr deal with NYR
#9 Bolland traded to Leafs for 2013 2nd round pick #51 , 2013 4th #117 and 2014 4th #98 ... After 1 nondescript 23 games 12 pts season with the leafs he signed as a UFA with the Panthers who probably expected more than 23 pts in 53 games in yr 1 of 5.5M x 5 yrs
#10 Frolik traded to the Jets for a 2013 3rd #74 and 5th #134
#12 Carcillo Traded to LA for a conditional 6th round Pick.
They were replaced with
#8 Ben Smith
#9 Kris Versteeg
#10 Brandon Bollig
# 11 Michal Handzus
The next year they kept 10 and dropped Bollig and Handzuz replaced with Brad Richard and #12 Teravainen.. Swapped out Smith for Vermette at the trading deadline.
Is Frolik a key player on a top 8 team or a support player?
Stahlberg was more important to the Hawks in the 2013 SC season... Nashville expected him to step up and be top 6 on their good team ... when they got really good he was not good enough to be a 3M support player. Maybe he will be a good support player for the Rangers @ 1.1M
Forgetting about anything that happened in Chicago, take a look at his before and after, pretty consistent. This was nothing but a solid signing for the Flames and he will have every opportunity here to be a top 6 guy.

Concur. I actually hope they put him with Gaudreau and Monahan (where they elevate his scoring and he elevates their two-way play). Slide Hudler down to play with Bennett and *Boom*... we get some actual scoring depth.

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. That just happens to be what several people are pointing to. Winnipeg just happens to be a small place.
After the Kane incidents, you tend to think "where there is smoke, there is fire." Hell, if I was from the Czech Republic, I wouldn't want to live in Winnipeg either during winter (although the summers are great).

Might have missed this already but does anyone have any highlights from Frolik this past season? I remember he was a force for the Jets for a couple weeks when they desperately needed it.

Unfortunately other teams' fans don't have an AC among them to make highlight packages because they suck.

Down the Stretch .. post all star when the Jets were in the crunch and Little and Perrault were hurt and Buff hurt and forced to play defense his TOI went up to 18 minutes from 16 minutes and he did a great job on the top checking line of Ladd-Lowry-Frolik He was only -4 in the last 34 games while chipping in with 9 goals and 16 pts.
Ladd only had 22 pts and was a -2 once he was put on the checking line.
The #1 line down the stretch (post all star game) was Wheeler 25 pts +18 -Schiefele 23 pts +5 -Stafford 19 pts +6 in his 26 games as a Flame.
He was definitely better than Stempniak who had 10 pts in his 18 games as a Jet on the third line.

So that's a "no" to the highlights, then?

I haven't seen him play enough to know how much he improves our top 6 but I like what I hear so far.
How much better is he than say David Jones on the RW?
I don't think we will see Hudler, JG and Mony split up unless they start to slip a bit.
But I think having Hudler mentor Sam would be great.
October can't come soon enough.

The more I think about the signing the more I like it.
If he performs well he can replace Hudler if salary demands vs performance doesn't fit in to the structure. Not saying I want Hudler gone, but still, a good back up plan with a healthy, albeit a little long, contract.
