I'm really hopeful that Ferland will continue to develop, but he's had one excellent playoff series so far. Lots of promise there and a great story but he has to prove that he can sustain that level of play, and the number of injuries that he has suffered is a concern.
I think Ortio has shown more to date and has a higher upside, so I went with him.
Yeah that happens when top guys graduate (Monahan, Gaudreau) bust or move out(Baertschi) and didn't pick in the 1st round last week.
Went with Rasmus Andersson this round.
Me too. Great minds... something something.
Andersson just seems to have that "it" when I read the anything reports. If that's how he plays when "lazy" and "a little bit unfit" then I think he'll mature into a great player

Went Kylington since I think he has the highest ceiling of the prospects left, and before the draft wanted either him or Svechnikov at 15. Would like to see who is faster, him or Poirier!
Came down to Ortio and Ferland for me, with Granlund not far behind. After those 3, all bets are off and it really is about who you think has the best future.
The next group after those 3 consists of Klimchuk, Morrison, Wotherspoon, Andersson, Culkin, Jankowski, and Arnold.
Ended up going with Ortio...but it was really close.

I can't go for Ferland yet - my vote goes more based on upside, and Ferland is more likely to be an NHL player, but as a complimentary 2nd line/stronger bottom 6 forward.
For me, it is between Kylington and Hickey - went for Kylington based on upside - if he puts it all together, we have ourselves a real player! #1-3 defenceman upside for both of those guys, and they will be my next 2 votes
I don't think any one goalie is over or under rated. I personally feel that the guys from 2-5 will end up as being almost interchangeable. It's more a matter of which guy more people prefer over the long term.
In regards to the prospect pool not looking so good...ask yourself, how does that actual on ice NHL team that people go to watch look compared to last year?
Who is picking the Flames to be dead last in the league this year? That will tell you why the prospect pool seems weaker. The Flames may still be considered the 20th best team in the league by some folks, but I doubt anyone has them any lower than that. With Gaudreau now in the NHL, and the acquisition of Hamilton instead of drafting McDavid or Eichel, that's changed things a fair bit.

Agreed.
I like lists of NHL teams based on who is in the system both at the junior, college and pro levels, but also on the NHL squads. Means more.
The Flames current core includes a 19 year old, a 20, two 22s and a 24, all would be prospect aged on this poll.
Ferland. He has the hands to be a 2nd line power forward. If he can score 20+ goals while irritating the opposition and crushing their defenders he'll be a rare and valuable commodity. Big upside to him. Love this type of player.

Toss up between Ortio and Ferland. Today I went Ortio. I love the fact that we have the current depth at net as I think Gillies and Ortio will both have long NHL careers.
I like Ferland but I think he tops out as a really good 3rd liner on a good team. Can not deny the special set of skills he has which makes him an intriguing player.
15 people on CP think that Kylington is the Flames 4th best prospect (13 thought he was 3rd).
It is very hard to see what they are basing this on.
The coaches in Sweden, that would have a vested interest in scouting him extremely closely, do not see him as one of best 8 under 20 D-men in Sweden.
What would the Swedish coaches have against Kylington that they don't see him like Hakan Loob sees him?
Even Loob is a bit schizophrenic in his evaluation of Kylington
Quote:
"I think he could play in the A. I think he could develop a lot there. Because I think what he needs is a little bit of a tougher going," Loob said. If he's playing at a higher level, then he'd be able to grow into it.
followed by the obvious question why was he moved to a lower level in Sweden:
Quote:
"We thought maybe that his development was a little too quick for himself. Everybody was expecting him to do great things in every game. We wanted to slow him down a little, and maybe he wanted to rush a little too much," Loob explained. His coaches in the SEL - whose jobs are to win games, not develop prospects - may have gotten impatient with him, and ultimately, the feeling was Kylington would perform better at a lower level
Has there ever been an U20 Swedish D-man drafted in the top 2 rounds that didn't play for the U20 team at the WJC?
