I came way too close to accidentally signing up with these guys last week. They are scum and their sales pitch tricks you into thinking they are doing you a good service. It was pitched as a "free" service to me. The guy asks to see my energy bill which I said "no" to. Then he basically tells me to sign the contract and he'll explain it afterwards. Ummm... sorry buddy but that's not how these things work.

The whole thing made me really angry, and I felt like an idiot for even giving him 5 minutes of my time. Lesson learned.

Somehow they have managed to skip my house. I saw them knock on my neighbours door, then walk by my house and go to the neighbour on the other side. I don't know what I did to evade them, but anybody who doesn't want them coming to their door, do what I did... whatever that was.

I absolutely LOATHE vivint. They have the scummiest of scumbag sales pitches, and I'm getting pretty tired of them coming to my house. Don't ever give these guys your name, because they will immediately name drop at your neighbours house. The one guy that came to my door somehow knew EVERYONE within 10 houses of me, and told me all about how they were signing up for free doorlocks.

As soon as I see that orange shirt the door closes back up on them. I have to admit though, if you spend more than 30 seconds talking to them they will hold you for half an hour; they seem well trained in the art of door to door sales.

I feel no guilt slamming the door on people who's entire job entails lying and scamming people to sign up for stuff. Direct Energy, Just Energy, ect salespeople are deceptive creeps.

Now that I think of it. It was a vivint sales man. And I think I know exactly what I did. I listened to some guys spiel and then told him I'm short on time and can't commit to anything right now without doing my own research. I then agreed to talk to him the next morning at 9:00am. We didn't bother to answer the door. He probably put 2 and 2 together and realized that he won't get me to buy anything and didn't want to waste his time.

I do recall a few years before when vivint came to my door when I lived on another part of town and the guy told me that my neighbour was broken into a week prior and the cops couldn't legally take the guys webcam footage because it wasn't registered with a security system. I later discovered that my neighbour doesn't have webcams, nor was he ever broken into. The vivint rep outright lied to me to scare me into thinking I needed security too. He probably got the idea that I wouldn't even know of anything happening in my neighbourhood because they ask innocent questions such as "Do you know the people next door very well?" That neighbourhood I lived in wasn't one where people knew each other and one of the people probably told him that they never talk to anybody and never see anybody talking to one another. I think I knew more people on that street than anybody else.

If the vivint sales guy asks you anything about your neighbour or neighbourhood, just tell him/her that he'll not be getting that information from him. And hope your neighbours will do the same. They ask those seemingly innocent questions but they ask them from almost all the houses on your street and they'll put all their information together to learn about your street and use that as a sales/scare tactic into getting somebody into thinking they need a security system.

Yeah, I had the vivint guy come to my door a few weeks ago. Woke me up from an afternoon nap, so I was a little groggy and ended up letting him prattle on for 5 minutes longer than I should have. He also used the "Ken Jones across the street just signed up for it" bit.

On one hand, I'm impressed you remembered an off-hand joke (that you didn't even like!) made by someone in a general thread 6 weeks ago, on the other hand, I'm unsure how jokes = trolls unless you're picking a fight.

Lol, Vivant, I had one of those ######s have the gall to tell my wife he worked for the city and the ring doorbell was becoming a requirement. he showed my wife his business licence but not his alarm licence. So, confused, she wakes me up (this is early Sunday morning), I immediately asked if he was wearing orange. She confirms. So I go to the door, point to my ADT sign, then as he starts to say somehng, I point to my ADT work van and said to him good luck in getting anyone in this block to sign and promptly close the door.

It was a good laugh and story to tell the boys at work.

He never did get anyone to sign and I've personally installed 11 systems on my block.

Good times.
