What more coverage are you looking for? It was a missing person that recently transitioned to a homicide. The first big break (the discovery of the body) was announced as soon as it was discovered with suspect in custody.
That's pretty much the whole story the public gets until/unless trial information goes public.

I can't believe the backyard hadn't been looked into for the last seven months. Hope the family will find closure in knowing this.

Googling back on the story, when it began, there was pretty much one day of news coverage about this missing woman. I guess that is all one can expect without leads, but still.

There's something called a search warrant if you want to go digging things up on private property. I can only assume they've suspected the husband for awhile and were building the grounds to go in.

Or the CPS intentionally kept things quiet as they built their case against the husband to a level where they could lay charges.
If you still don't have enough evidence to get a search warrant and you "know" the guy did it (based on his attitude and other circumstantial evidence), perhaps you don't want to hype the case up and make him a flight risk.

That's generally about all one can get with a missing person. An adult in Canada has every right to up and disappear if they feel so inclined to do so. So an investigation into that is very different than a homicide one. Since it was reported as a missing person (not by the husband, but by Shannon's sister) it was investigated like that. When new evidence came to light, the investigation changed, and the methods changed.
I have a feeling that the court case for this will be quite the case.
This is a personal case for me, because I knew Shannon well through two different social circles.

Was that hole there previously? You would think that digging a hole in the backyard in late November would have been a little red flag that something was up.

The police must have been to the house to look at stuff before. Maybe it was winter so the hudsband could use snow to cover up the newly dug patch of the backyard. He wouldn't have got away for this long if it was not snow on the ground.

With a Missing Person, the Police are looking for the person, alive. So they would likely go to the house, look in the bedrooms, closets, under beds (for kids), that sort of thing. You look out in a back yard and don't see anyone standing, sitting or laying there...then the MP's not in the back yard. You don't look UNDER the back yard.
Looking for a Missing Person you have no reason to suspect is dead is a lot different than looking for someone you suspect is dead.

Apparently the husband is overwhelmed by the murder charge.

I suppose killing your wife and concealing the crime while pretending to be out looking for her would be less overwhelming.

Need to be able to prove that it was premeditated... charges could always be upgraded if evidence comes to light that it was.

I read today that some kind of evidence was presented to CPS late last week which then led to the execution of a search warrant/digging up of the backyard. Until then they had no reason to start digging up the yard.
As is the case in a huge majority of these situations, the husband looks to be involved and the reason police usually zero in on them from the get go.

Whether the hudsband is guilty or not, it's sad to see a young and intelligent couple ended up like this.

I wonder in a case like this if the HAWCs helicopter would be tasked with taking aerial pictures of the property occasionally - perhaps checking if ground gets disturbed over time.
